Thanks to Deal Hunter phoinix for posting this deal.

Available from: Details:
  • A series of spiritual exercises filled with wisdom, practical guidance, and profound understanding of human behavior, Marcus Aurelius's Meditations remains one of the greatest works of spiritual and ethical reflection ever written. With bite-size insights and advice on everything from living in the world to coping with adversity and interacting with others, Meditations has become required reading not only for statesmen and philosophers alike, but also for generations of readers who responded to the straightforward intimacy of his style.
  • In Gregory Hays's translation—the first in nearly four decades—Marcus's thoughts speak with a new immediacy. In fresh and unencumbered English, Hays vividly conveys the spareness and compression of the original Greek text. Never before have Marcus's insights been so directly and powerfully presented.
  • With an Introduction that outlines Marcus's life and career, the essentials of Stoic doctrine, the style and construction of the Meditations, and the work's ongoing influence, this edition makes it possible to fully rediscover the thoughts of one of the most enlightened and intelligent leaders of any era.

This is a very short book. It's in the public domain, which means it's something you can get for free if you do a bit of searching. The full audiobook is a few hours long.

A classic and solid read. Not just for philosophy majors either.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think this modern translation by Gregory Hays is in the public domain. The public domain versions use more archaic language that some like but others find harder to understand. I personally bought this version because I like it better.

FWIW I saw Graham B interviewing Jerry Seinfeld recently and he cited this book several times. So it must be good.

Seems like a bunch better deal than what Ryan Holiday pimps on his website.

This translation was done in 2002, so it's not in the public domain. The original Greek and many of the other English translations are PD though. This is supposed to be more approachable, but apparently some philosophy types think it's not as true to the original meaning. But , if you don't want to pay, there certainly are other options.

FYI - There are many, many different versions of this book on Amazon for $2 or less. There is one version that is only .19 cents. It seems like all the different versions have very good ratings.
