How it actually performs
Reviews are split — Amazon sits around 3.7/5 (~200 ratings).
It does well at:
- Car interiors (crumbs, sand, loose dirt, pet hair on seats)
- Light jobsite dust and small debris
- Portability — you can wear the strap and work one-handed
- Using batteries you already own
It struggles with:- Strong suction. This is the #1 complaint. Many owners say it won't pull dirt out of car floor mats or pick up fine dust well. Some call it "weak for a Makita."
- Deep or embedded dirt, carpet, or anything beyond surface debris
- Fine concrete/drywall dust (bags clog fast; no HEPA)
- Value if you have to buy a battery separately
People who already live on the 18V LXT platform and want a compact detailing/cleanup tool tend to like it. People expecting Dyson- or shop-vac-level pull are usually disappointed.Bottom line
Good if: you already have Makita 18V batteries and want a light, quiet grab-and-go vac for cars, benches, and small messes.
Skip if: you need real suction, deep cleaning, large capacity, or you're buying this as a standalone vacuum without batteries.
Makita's other 18V vacs (XLC02 compact stick, XLC11 cyclonic stick, or the larger HEPA canister models) are generally better reviewed if suction or household use is the priority
