The Logitech Ergo M575S is a thumb trackball that shines for office work, travel, and long sessions once the hand learns the motion. It is praised as an easy entry point into trackball mice, with reports of reduced forearm and wrist strain, quick adaptation, and years of reliable use on desktop, laptop, and home theater PC setups. It also works for some gaming, including World of Warcraft and even mythic raiding, though fast gaming is harder than normal mouse use. The main drawback is limited buttons, and the used unit here had inconsistent clicks and accidental triple clicks.
Office workers easing forearm strain, because the thumb trackball reduces wrist movement and can feel natural after a short adjustment period.
Laptop and desktop users who want a compact pointer for travel, because it adapts quickly and works well across both setups.
Trackball beginners curious about an ergonomic mouse, because it is a straightforward entry point before moving to a pricier model.
Home theater PC users controlling a couch setup, because it pairs well with a Bluetooth keyboard and stays usable for years.
Gamers who need fast, precise mouse movement, because it can feel too slow for gaming even after you get used to it.
People who rely on lots of mouse buttons for shortcuts, because this model has too few buttons for some workflows.
People who need consistent clicking for double-click actions, because the click mechanism can feel inconsistent and trigger accidental triple-clicks.
People whose hands hurt quickly from trackballs, because this style can cause pain within minutes and may aggravate wrist or thumb issues.

it may be worth spending 3x for the same thumb mouse.

I absolutely HATE trackball mice. They make my hand hurt in about 5 minutes of usage. I think they can give you carpal tunnel (or whatever dislocated thumb) 10 times faster than normal mice.
However, I have several family members and have seen multiple coworkers at various places swear by those things. You're ALL insane! But I will still buy one on occasion for a present for someone.
