no, i'm saying it's an alternative to the sub that most people should match with these speakers that rsl makes (The 12s)
Like you, many may not agree with your "should" opinion.
Especially when people claim their inexpensive model comes close to that HSU price option.

They often say two subs are better than one also.

Just look at their current SD dual deal posted for that inexpensive model.
People contemplating two vs one 12s, saving them $225.
Even nytehawk in this post pointed it out.

Why would you not be able to run the system without one speaker?
I still haven't received a replacement.

Brother. Broheim. Broencephalitis. Hook up and place everything where it needs to be. You must have a spare speaker with a positive/negative terminal. If not manually set up the speakers. You don't need to wait to have every speaker in order to setup what you got.
That only works for checking if the gear is functional. I need to evaluate the sound signature and synergy of the entire setup. If it doesn't sound right together, I'm changing the components. I can't do a proper tuning or make that decision with a missing main tower.

$799 is not even a discount, that's basically MSRP... I'd consider $699 a discount by now
799$ for these is an absolute steal. You 100% will not find better at this price point t full stop.

Received mine in perfect condition. I've been thoroughly enjoying this set. Definitely not an audiophile here, but these certainly do the trick. The onkyo 7100 matches extremely well with these. Using a pair of focal 10's with em, eventually upgrade the subs to a single dayton ss18.
This is an absolutely amazing setup. If you scored it you wont do better for at least 3x the price...

This set up is end game for 98% of people. It is smooth and solid. Even the crossover is premium. If it is pure sound you are after and not a particular brand or look.. this checks all the boxes.

As to sound signature and what ever other bs you are spouting trust those of us who know better.

Unfortunately very unlikely you'll get to audition everything prior to the return windows closing.

Assuming you bought the receiver & sub under the same reasoning you chose this speaker package.
You should be fine, nothing actually sounds bad/lousy.
It comes down to whether you prefer the sound.

Now whether it sounds like 3x the price or it's your end game setup is completely personal/individual choice/opinion.

I bought the RC-70's in 2012 from Fry's for $300 each, RC-LCR for $250, RC-10's for $200.pr

That's $1050 so $799 is definitely a steal.

This is still my main setup for the past 14 years. Highly recommend.

If you want to "evaluate the sound signature" all you need to do is hook up the center speaker and the bookshelf speakers.

The towers will provide the same sound signature as those 3, just a bit more mid-bass extension and output (which is irrelevant if you use a sub anyway).

And if your main use is TV/movies then the front L/R and surrounds are largely irrelevant anyhow, because it's the CENTER speaker that actually carries 60-80% of the output including all of the DIALOGUE. Salesmen will never tell you that because they want you to spend more on big bulky towers since the more you spend the fatter their commission. Ditto with the industry manufacturers---ANY industry, really. Upselling the customer means more money in their pockets. End of story.

Don't split hairs or lose any sleep over this silly hobby---the goal is ENJOYMENT, not being trapped in OCD.

I've been enjoying them very much, but a subwoofer is an absolute must to get solid full-range performance out of them.

I'm going to start to get anxious that I'll never see this deal again, considering I'm at the stage where I'd normally be spending this much for a single tower.

Don't get anxious. If you know what good speakers sound like you will hate these.
