The reviews of these over at Breaking Eighty have been very disappointing. They lock onto the flag and everything else providing a constant range of yardage figures.

Most people wouldn't but the laser shouldn't care so as long as it can (theoretically) achieve those ranges, why gatekeep them out needlessly? Wouldn't save any cost, improve any other function, and could limit potential users.

And like someone else said, shooting / hunting would be a popular use outside golfing distances.

FWIW, I've had a couple of these typo of cheapo range finders but ended up selling them again later. I find they are reliable enough to gauge target shooting distances but unless you are ranging things in unfamiliar areas (hunting or golfing) you tend to only need them once since that (now) known distance ain't changing. And most longer shooting ranges are clearly mapped out / known distances. The government refuses to allow me to own any indirect fire weapons so my use case of choice is off the table Frown

All that being said, neat if you have the use case. Mo' cheaper opinion would be google maps measuring tool, can be used in a pinch, assuming the area isn't covered in trees (e.g. hunting).

For $30 you can't expect perfection.
