I'm on grandfathered Simple Choice plan and received this text from T-mobile:
iPhone 17. Your exclusive offer is here and it's just for you.

I had received this text from T-mobile last week and replied "YES":

Depending on your account's financing plan, you may see 24 or 36 monthly bill credits.

$600 off any condition trade on most voice plans

A phone rep said it should work for both iPhone and Android device upgrades without adding a line or changing plan. But it didn't work for me online or at a Costco kiosk.

For Costco members:
Login to Costco, then go through "Upgrade device" on this page to make the deal sweeter ($100 Costco shop card): https://www.costco.com/f/-/t-mobi...d-showcase
I don't see a place to add a trade-in device when I go through Costco. It replaces the $930 promo with $100 Costco shop card promo which is not worth it. Likely because promo terms say "May not be combinable with some offers, discounts, or promotions"

Some users reported success by adding the new phone with trade-in device to the cart first, then following the Costco link to check out. I didn't try that as I didn't want to risk losing the $930 off.

This is a targeted T-Mobile trade-in promo for legacy accounts, best for customers on grandfathered plans who can keep their current rate and use bill credits over 24 months, or 36 months on newer plans. The strongest reports show up to $930 off, with some accounts getting smaller credits like $600, $730, or $899 depending on plan and eligibility. Costco can waive activation fees and sometimes stack a $100 shop card, though the Costco flow may replace the main promo unless the cart is handled carefully. The main caveat is that many Simple Choice, One, Magenta, Go5G, and migrated accounts never see the offer or only get reduced terms, so eligibility is highly account specific.

Common Questions (5)

  • The promo can accept any-condition trade-ins on some targeted offers, but the device still needs to be eligible and identifiable, often by IMEI. Other screens explicitly say the trade-in must be in good condition, so the exact requirement depends on the specific promo attached to the account.

  • It is targeted and many Simple Choice accounts do not see the full offer. Some Simple Choice lines only show smaller trade-in credits like $150 off for iPhone 17 or $250 off for Pixel 11, while others are told to switch plans or contact T-Mobile for a targeted promo.

  • The credit length depends on the plan: newer 2.0 plans can show 36 months, while legacy plans often show 24 months. Several accounts also report the checkout page reflecting 24-month credits even when the promo headline says "up to 36 months."

  • Yes, but the checkout flow matters. A working method is to add the phone in the T-Life app first, then open the T-Mobile Costco link and finish checkout there; that can preserve both the $930 trade-in promo and the Costco shop card, while Costco-only checkout may replace the trade-in deal with a smaller shop-card offer.

  • Going through Costco can waive the activation fee, and some direct T-Mobile checkouts also reported no activation fee. Other orders still showed a $35 activation fee, so the fee waiver depends on the checkout path and account.

I have a brick Samsung galaxy fold 7 because of liquid damage. It does not turn on. Is "any condition" applicable here? The condition is that the phone does not even turn on.
as long as they can see the imei it should work.
for example, on the iPhones that have SIM cards, the imei is usually printed on the SIM card slot. Is there any place that shows the imei of your device?

I'm going to assume this will not work on a free line as they consider it a promo already.

If the line was a third line free when signing up, then it qualifies.

Most others, including BOGOs, do not.

There's a chart in this article that explains it.

How were you guys able to grandfathered with old plan?
My magenta plan got "upgraded" to newest plan and I am paying 15% more.
I think TMO is just "randomly" moving people from grandfather plans to new/expensive plans. In people's discussion, it seems like they get like a 30 days notice or something.

As long as TMO doesn't notify me, I am assuming my old plan continues. As soon as they do it, I will switch, coz there's no point in staying with expensive plans.

Paying at least $50/month for a basic line for 3 years isn't "on us"

You basically fund it from your overpriced plan vs any MVNO

I have 55+ plan too just that my parents are primary user and we are paying for them anyway so, and we also planning to do trade-in for iphone 18 pro and so far this year trade in value seems good.

36 months is choice, you can do 24 months. That's what I am doing. The thing about this is better due to they give you whole lot more tradein value compared to apple store, without financing interest.

I've got 5 lines for $125/month taxes&fees included.Unlimited Premium data qci 6, & 60gb of hotspot.

36 month EIPs are only on the new 2.0 plans.

Just got $930 off an 18Pro, a free iPhone 17 in March, and my Pixel 9 ProXL 256gb was $200 after Pixel 6 Pro trade in.

Apparently some SC plans didn't get replaced, despite their announcements that they would be. For example, I have a plan that came with a blanket "we'll never raise your rate" promise from ~2014 and I think the risk of legal fallout from breaking that promise might be tying their hands for the moment. (They DID raise my "fees" by about $1/line, which are apparently different from my "rate", but the account is otherwise holding fast.)
Definitely not. They raised my rate from the "locked in for life" on like, 5 separate occasions. It was the magenta one military plan. My rate doubled by the time I finally filed an FCC complaint against them and switched companies.

Thanksgiving/Black Friday seems to be good deals. That's when I did my upgrading the last 6 years!
There wasn't anything better last year for Magenta Max on BF. $500 off the S26 is the best I've seen, or at least I'm pretty sure it is. Other than a free Pixel, but I tried one of those and returned it; I don't want to switch from Samsung.
