This deal centers on a digital Animal Crossing New Horizons offer, with the main appeal being a lower price for players who want the game on Switch without buying another cartridge. The listing is confusing because the first item appears to be Happy Home Designer DLC while only showing the base game name. Storage is the biggest practical drawback, since Switch space fills fast and downloads can be slow, though some manage by uninstalling finished games or using a microSD card. Price history checks and GameStop price matching may help compare the download against a physical copy.
Households that keep multiple replayable games installed, because deleting and reinstalling large titles is impractical when storage fills up fast.
Digital-only Switch players who want a lower price on Animal Crossing New Horizons, because the download version can be a good deal when they already own the cartridge.
The digital version can make sense if you want a good download price while keeping the physical copy. It is especially useful if you prefer having the game installed on the Switch instead of swapping cartridges.
Uninstall games after finishing them to free space, then redownload later when you want to play again. A download can be ready in about 15 minutes, but large libraries and multiplayer favorites can make constant deleting and reinstalling impractical.
Download speeds can be slow even on a fast connection, so the game may not be ready immediately after purchase. If storage is tight, that makes the wait more noticeable because you may need to clear space first.
The first item appears to be Animal Crossing New Horizons: Happy Home Designer DLC, even though the listing only shows the game name. That makes the discounted product easy to misread, so check the exact title before buying.
So many games, if only Nintendo would enable external hard drives or allow hot swapping of microsd express cards because mine is full.
How big is your microSD card? Also how many games do you play in a season of your life? I have a couple forever games, like Mariokart, that will stay on there and I'll play periodically, but for the most part I'll beat a game and uninstall it when I need space. If I am in the mood to play a game I can start the download and it will be ready to play in 15 minutes or so.

Download speeds are so slow even on a 2GB network, for me anyways

how does that work? do you go into GameStop and price match for the physical media?

256GB, which is what, 230 usable? I stick to a lot of replayable games and multiplayer games, so yes Mario Kart alone is 22GB, Smash is over 17GB, Star Fox is 15GB, Overcooked! 2 is nearly 12GB, and I can go on and on, along with games I play for myself like Engage being 16.5GB and Tears of the Kingdom being nearly 16GB. Other replayable games like rhythm and fighting games are all 5-10GB+ each easily, and there are some games like Animal Crossing or Pokemon that I wouldn't delete. Lastly, I play with my partner, and they have their own favorites (Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy, anyone?). At these file sizes, constantly deleting and reinstalling isn't very feasible, as I'm already doing now, and a huge, unreasonable pain point. And when your girl, they want to play now! Much less a group of friends at a party with only so much attention span.
So yes, the space isn't enough and buying a 1TB microSD card is prohibitively expensive compared to just buying an external drive like for the PS5.

Well, even the PS5's external drive can only play PS4 games, so games like Star Fox you mentioned won't work. It could be you just like the comfort of being able to play any of them at a moment's notice but I would be curious if you sorted your switch games by last time played how many of those you haven't opened in over 6 months, if you played everything on that SD card over the past 6 months because you enjoy jumping from game to game, then yeah, that is an unfortunate predicament.

Well, PS5 came with a 1TB drive and I added a 4TB SSD, which is nowhere near how much the Switch has in space. I may not remember all the games on top of my head, but your solution is sadly something I've considered and does not work for the both of us using the system.

Ah, yeah that is harder when you have several people using the system. Also, the PS5 is only 825GB, not 1 TB, but yeah, I had a 2 TB myself until I replaced my optical disk drive and I must have damaged something because my drive stopped working.

The digital purchase can be worthwhile when a good sale price is available for Animal Crossing New Horizons.
GameStop price-matching can provide a physical Switch cartridge instead of a download.
Uninstalling completed games can free Switch storage without permanently giving up "forever games" that stay installed.
The first listed deal item can be confusing because it appears to be Happy Home Designer DLC while only the base game name is shown.
Switch storage can become a practical bottleneck when external storage options like hot-swapping microSD Express are not available.
Download times can be slow even on a 2GB network connection.
Constant deleting and reinstalling can be impractical for multi-user households and multiplayer or party sessions.
