I didn't want solar because I've read everywhere that those sets are hit and miss. I also didn't want to get on the roof. Finally, I wanted to rely on the timer that I set, not rely on however much power is left in the solar cells.
I put a piece of velcro on the back of the remote and the window frame looking out on the patio and it just lives there. We don't move it as it's not at all necessary to keep adjusting - it works fine without pointing it directly at the light strings.
edit: I bought these July 28th so they've been installed and been through Atlanta weather for like 6 weeks now
