Diablo 5 has been announced for 2029.
There are 2 DLCs, not included here, and they are fairly important for end game. Its become a pay wall.
Normally $40, but currently on sale for $30.
Hope this helps.
This game sucks for players without the 2 expansion packs. The players with the 2 expansion packs are overpowered by like 500 percent compared to the characters with only the standard edition. Which means multiplayer mode is a joke for the people who had only the standard version. Not recommended.
Diablo IV is a loot-heavy action RPG with strong graphics and a big amount of endgame content, and the current $12 base price makes it a cheap way to play while waiting for Diablo V or Path of Exile 2. The game leans more MMO-like than Diablo III, and the loot system lets legendaries be salvaged to move affixes onto other gear. The main drawback is the expansion setup, since important endgame content sits behind paid DLC, with the full package costing much more. Performance issues on AMD cards and a cluttered, stat-heavy loot loop also come up.
Loot-hunting players who enjoy constant item drops, because Diablo IV showers you with legendaries and lets you salvage them to reuse affixes.
The base game is about $12, and the two expansions are reported at $29.99 total, putting the full current package at about $42. Another comment says the DLC without cosmetics is $40 and includes both expansions.
The base game is playable, but the two expansion packs add major endgame content and can create a big power gap in multiplayer. One comment says standard-edition characters can feel far weaker than players with both expansions, while another notes new players can get by with the base game plus the LoH expansion.
Diablo V is reportedly targeting 2029, so Diablo IV should still have years of content left. That makes the current $12 deal a reasonable stopgap if you want something to play before the next game arrives.
Yes. Legendaries can be salvaged so the game stores their affixes for reuse or swapping onto other gear, which reduces the need to hoard them in storage.
Does this game have a terrible loot grind like Diablo 2? I wasted too much of my childhood grinding for runes and acting like a bot on endless boss runs.
D4 is a loot simulator. You won't have enough storage for a single character, and you can make 14.
Getting the hatred DLC will give you the cube. Which allows for you to take literally any piece of loot, and turn it into what you want, assuming you have the materials and gold for it.
This might help with storage, if you don't horde.
In the end though, the field of dreams made of piles of loot eventually turns into a junk yard. You might find a 1% gain in the junk yard if you are lucky and look long enough.
Diablo 3 player here, just finished it recently after it has been on my backlog for over a decade. It was fun, how does D4 compare to D3? I'm hearing a lot of hate for D4 so I may just wait for D5.
Personally I prefer D3 over D4. D4 is a lot more like an MMO than D3(more like a single player game with optional co-op).
If you like MMO and enjoy seeing a large number of other players you may like D4. D4 has better graphics but the cosmetic outfits are still way too limited and to me the characters still look ugly though not as cartoonish as D3 was. The story of D4 doesn't make sense so D3 also wins on story. I hated the D4 story so much that I just skip the cut scenes. If you have free trials of PC Game Pass you can try Diablo 4 on Game Pass for free. I played through the campaign and moved on to other games.

As someone who literally never played this game but heard about it ad nauseam in high school, I clicked on this thread to buy it, but then read several posts, and now there's no way in hell I'm spending my money on this. Off to play some good ol' Age of Empires II, my friends.

People are talking about the DLC in this thread like it's the end of the world or something. So I went searching for the cost of the DLC (it can't be THAT bad)..... $70 for one of the DLC packages. 😧So the game came out for $60. They expect their fans to pay an additional $70 then the other DLC is on sale for $30 right now but I'm sure it was much higher when it came out too. So blizzard wanted it's players to sink like $200 into the game. 😱😑I guess the positive news is that Diablo players are subsidizing Overwatch 2 player's lives. Overwatch is a free game & you don't have to pay any money to enjoy it. 😉 Thanks Diablo players.
People will upvote anything here lol.
There DLC are not $70 each. The base game is $12 and the two expansions are $29.99 for both.
So to get the base game and all content right now it's $42.
PoE2 is about to end Beta in December. Then it will be free (Costs $30 right now in beta). It's a superior game in every way. D4 isn't a bad way to spend your time for $12 until then though.

The base game price around $12 can make Diablo IV a low-cost stopgap until later releases arrive.
The Hatred DLC cube can help convert loot into desired items, which may reduce storage pressure.
Legendaries can be salvaged to reuse or swap affixes onto other gear, which can streamline gearing.
The LoH expansion bundling can let new players get by with base game plus LoH without buying both expansions separately.
Standard-edition characters can feel dramatically weaker than expansion owners, making multiplayer less fun.
Loot and stat overload can make legendary drops feel less meaningful over time.
AMD graphics cards can experience terrible stutters during gameplay.
Diablo IV can feel like a mobile gacha-style experience after only brief play.

So...like I said, D4 is the cash cow.
*Fitting # for a game called Diablo
