If you need a more precise scale that you're not paying out the nose for (ie not lab grade) but is also actually accurate (very useful for baking, where proper proportions are huge), buy the scales gun owners use for reloading powder. Frankford Arsenal and A&D Weighing have some good options that go on reasonable sales or can be found used.

If you need a more precise scale that you're not paying out the nose for (ie not lab grade) but is also actually accurate (very useful for baking, where proper proportions are huge), buy the scales gun owners use for reloading powder. Frankford Arsenal and A&D Weighing have some good options that go on reasonable sales or can be found used.

I've used scales like the OP's before, but eventually settled on a dual-scale model: https://a.co/d/0gJQtkSA

It goes on sale for $24-25 regularly and if you have any need whatsoever for more precision than 1g increments, just put your money into one that does the job.

I weigh everything when I cook, even liquids. The 1g increments are fine for bulk ingredients, but I wanted (at least) 0.1g precision for spices. The scale above does 0.01g and is great.

For what it's worth, I don't weigh everything because I'm neurotic...at least, not entirely. I just really like not having to pull out a bunch of measuring cups and spoons when I'm cooking. More often than not, I can just tare and keep going in the same container.

I'll say this is probably too large to use effectively for espressos. The ones you see being used for espressos are the size of coasters because they are used for multiple purposes: weight the coffee beans and then to weigh (and time) the espresso shot as it's being poured. Ideally you'd want a scale that has a timer on it and does 0.1g, which this scale does neither.

I use this type to weight dog food versus by volume to give more control on portions. I can see how one that goes to 0.1g would be useful for spices. Tried to weight pepper with this type one time to cook and ultimately failed wishing I had a scale that had 0.1g granularity.
