Just bought from the last Elegoo eBay sale and it came beat. Just 5 rolls taped together and gofo must have dropped it a bunch.

if you have an AMS and cardboard, an awesome find has been these hobby lobby $3.50 reusable spools. Works perfect converting cardboard spools over to my AMS 2 Pro. I too had problems with cardboard spools before this. Super easy to convert cardboard spools, takes 30 seconds.

been using cardboard spools for years now in my AMS.

just print rings if you're concerned, it doesn't take much time at all... most companies these days put a nice coating around the edged of the cardboard spools as well making it irrelevant, Elegoo does this as well on recent rolls i've gotten from them directly.

Mine arrived the same way... Such an interesting shipping method, to say the least. These shipping companies push, pull, and stack things with little regard for their contents before and after they get on the final truck for delivery. That's why an outer box would have been nice. Luckily the tape didn't break.

Agreed! This is pretty reasonable price. They're of a decent quality too for being so cheap. It's funny they offer these since they don't sell spool-less filament 😆 It's nice to not have to print something 3D printing related so that you can 3D print something. I feel like 40% of everything I print is related to 3D printing itself!

This is dumb. I've run over a thousand Elegoo PLA+ rolls through each of my AMS 1 and 2s and never had an issue. Simply print a spool edge cover that takes 10 minutes and reuse them over and over.

The carboard spools leave a lot to be desired, but the rapid pla+ filament is some of the best quality PLA I've ever used.

Can vouch for ELEGOO as well. Their Rapid PETG is great and never had issues with the spools. Sucks the colors I was looking for are sold out!

Dumb question but why does cardboard vs plastic spool matter? Like what issues? I have an Ender model and haven't had issues but I'm printing cookie cutters.. soooo

Somehow when the AMS tugs strongly on filament from a cardboard spool, the cardboard flexes and the spool doesn't unroll, causing the filament not to feed and causing a pause in the print. Plastic is hard and doesn't flex. I've observed this mid spool on a multi hour print and had to come home to switch

Do you need to re-wind or do you just break the cardboard rim and slide the filament over to the plastic spool?

I had some trouble in ams2. Mostly either esun though. If you get crooked rolls they don't roll well and get stuck.
