A microwave takes longer to boil water than an electric kettle because it's less energy efficient. You also have to worry about superheating in a microwave so you always need to put something in the container like a wooden spoon or chopstick. I had this one and it worked well for a year. Then one day it started smoking and likely would have started a fire if I hadn't been in the room. There's no I'd trust a used one.

This seems like a good policy move. Although its nice to hear about some of these deals, I'd rather see them silo'd away given all the caveats that comes with used items.

If you are so afraid of plastic, just check closely on the picture of all these kettles, evevery one of them will have a plastic filter inside the mouth.
