good frame but be warned frameos software is paywalled bs that only allows you to use your phone to manage photos on the frame if you pay for their subscription. otherwise you have to physically interact with the frame to interact/change any photos once theyre uploaded.

I ordered this yesterday, arrived today and hacked / setup this evening. It was a major pain in the ass but I got it to work. I'm not sure what others did but this is basically what i did:

- Removed the Frameo app completely (including its boot-up splash screen) so it never loads again.. I don't care / don't plan to use that.
- Set Fully Kiosk Browser as the only thing that starts up, locked into kiosk mode with root access enabled. This was the biggest pain point because it was complaining about a stale web view (ver61).
- Fixed the ancient built-in browser engine by moving my already-downloaded Google WebView app into the system folder (downloaded and installed via adb).. turns out that's all it took, no special permissions or signing needed
- End result: frame boots straight into my kiosk dashboard, running a modern browser engine instead of a 2017-era one, and Frameo is gone for good

(ignore the data in the pic, i'm still setting up my dashboard)

Snagged one to root and use as a home assistant Lovelace dashboard. Hopefully it's rootable, if not it's being returned.

Community Reviews

This 15.6 inch Frameo digital picture frame stands out for easy wireless photo sharing, good picture quality, and a size that feels worthwhile at the sale price. The Frameo app is free for sending photos and short videos, and the frame handles portrait shots well, with scheduled screen on and off times adding convenience. The main caveats are that remote management and longer videos require a paid subscription, uploads come from the app rather than a desktop, and the built in speakers sound cheap. Some also note slow performance and that the 1366 by 768 panel can downsample high resolution photos when zoomed.

Bravo! Are your dashboard pages entirely static? Or do you think it can handle some animated icons and/or video feeds from security cams?
I just started using "Magic Frame" with it just to try it out, so far it works well, the music assistant and photo slideshow stuff seems to work well. To answer your q and because I was curious, I set it to one of my dashboards that has security cameras and performance was mixed. 2 cameras at low res fine, 4 not bad, struggled a bit, 3x3 grid, bad - that's using "Advanced Camera Card" from HACS. Maybe there are better ways of doing it but I'm not using this frame for cameras so not going to futz with it too much.

This is the perfect frame for relatives. We got them for my parents, in laws and grandparents. That way I can send family photos and updates to all or select frames. You can pay for extra features but I don't care about photo management I just. Are about having something that I can send photos to knowing that family will be able to get updates.
Do you have to pay a subscription to send new pictures remotely?

Did you use the USB c port for ADB on the frameo or the USB A? I've been having a hard time just getting my laptop to see the device when it's connected even with debugging enabled
I used the usb c port for ADB, but just for the initial connection. once it was on the wifi and connected the first time, I assigned it a static ip and just connected adb wirelessly. - as another poster said, not all cables are data cables, but yes usb c in the frame to usb A out, worked.

How did you obtain root? I tried using Magisk but that failed, https://gist.github.com/dasos/782...0a9d8896b0

I ordered one yesterday and had a short period of time to mess with it. It was also a giant pain that left me unsuccessful since I couldn't replace webview and get FKB working.
i didn't need to obtain root - it was already there. The device shipped with a su binary pre-installed at /system/xbin/su, and running su grants root instantly with zero exploits, unlocking, or flashing needed. That's the first thing I checked when I connected, and it just worked. Maybe I just got lucky?

Sounds like that not all these units maybe created equal. I wasn't able to run su without Magisk. Maybe I'll factory reset and try again, thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the info! Did it have a camera or proximity sensor you can access to trigger on/off?

The photo frame has neither (that I know of), but once you connect it to fully kiosk, you can turn it on / off in HA. I have a separate proximity sensor with an automation that turns it on/off as needed. Hope that helps Smilie

Update: it actually only worked for me through the USB C port. I was able to get an access without doing anything so that was nice. Just got fully kiosk on it and am playing with various dashboards. Ironically I may actually use it as a photo frame unless it's interacted with to trigger the dashboard

Can you go into step by step how to do this? I'm a newbie to these softwares and want to get one of these to work for my parents.

I have tried it with both prime and non-prime accounts, the code 86PPH8RM is not working for me even after retry/relogin.
