good frame but be warned frameos software is paywalled bs that only allows you to use your phone to manage photos on the frame if you pay for their subscription. otherwise you have to physically interact with the frame to interact/change any photos once theyre uploaded.

I ordered this yesterday, arrived today and hacked / setup this evening. It was a major pain in the ass but I got it to work. I'm not sure what others did but this is basically what i did:

- Removed the Frameo app completely (including its boot-up splash screen) so it never loads again.. I don't care / don't plan to use that.
- Set Fully Kiosk Browser as the only thing that starts up, locked into kiosk mode with root access enabled. This was the biggest pain point because it was complaining about a stale web view (ver61).
- Fixed the ancient built-in browser engine by moving my already-downloaded Google WebView app into the system folder (downloaded and installed via adb).. turns out that's all it took, no special permissions or signing needed
- End result: frame boots straight into my kiosk dashboard, running a modern browser engine instead of a 2017-era one, and Frameo is gone for good

Honestly, for a first attempt, especially on a frame your parents will actually use - I'd point you at any of the GitHub projects already linked in this thread rather than trying to replicate what I did step by step. What I went through was a lot of manual poking around specific to my exact board / firmware (rooting, patching system files, rebuilding boot services), and a good chunk of it involved reverse-engineering my way through problems as they came up rather than following a known-good recipe. I was lucky I didn't brick it. A maintained repo that other people in this community have already tested across multiple frames is going to be a much safer starting point than trying to copy my disorganized sequence of steps onto hardware that might behave completely differently. Hopefully that isn't discouraging you, just want to be clear that there's real risk of bricking the device if something goes wrong partway through - so trying one of the existing repos that many people have tried, is probably a safer bet. Got this last time and it's super easy - enable ABD is right in the Frameo app menu and you connect with root.

About the easiest mod I've ever come across.

As with others I had to use c to a cable.

For anyone else wondering go to settings-beta program and then enable ADB show up as a setting. Usbc to a cable and you'll have root access. Just have ChatGPT walk you through the steps if need be

mine says its 1366x768 and when loading high res photos and zooming in, they look like they've been downsampled.
