AIRHAS zero drop barefoot gym shoes are a low cost way to try minimalist footwear, especially for lifting, squats, and short gym sessions. The wide toe box, breathable upper, and all black look get strong marks, and the shoes can feel true to size or slightly small depending on foot shape. The main tradeoff is very little padding, so longer walks, standing, or sensitive feet can feel uncomfortable. Fit also seems inconsistent, with some reports of a tight top or narrow build, so sizing carefully matters.

  • Gym lifters wanting a flat training shoe, because the zero-drop sole and low cushioning work well for squats and lifting.

  • Barefoot-shoe beginners wanting an inexpensive first pair, because the wide toe box and minimal feel make them a low-cost entry point.

  • Wide-toe wearers who prefer room for toe splay, because the toe box is very wide and avoids big-toe cramping.

  • People easing into minimalist shoes for short daily wear, because the shoes can feel comfortable after an adaptation period.

  • Wearers who need a roomy fit across the whole foot, because the shoe can run narrow and feel tight on top.

  • Walkers who need cushioning for long periods, because the shoes can feel too thin and uncomfortable after about 20 minutes.

  • Buyers expecting durable everyday shoes, because the upper can lose shape and show wear quickly with light use.

  • People with high arches or Achilles sensitivity, because flat zero-drop soles can aggravate those areas.

Bought these last time they hit FP deals. Promptly returned them. I can't imagine how anyone can comfortably wear these shoes for any prolonged period of time, or for any distance walking.
It may surprise you to discover that not everyone has wrecked their feet with stupid amounts of padding and insanely high heels, but instead have - crazy, I know - developed the supernatural ability to use their feet as they evolved to do.

The overwhelming majority of people with foot problems have them because their feet are atrophied. Arch support is a joke, though not a very funny one for those who need it to compensate for the weak feet they cultivated, I suppose.

These are great but zero drop is not for everyone. It puts a lot of stress on Achilles tendon. If you're prone to issues there, these shoes will make it worse. I have the same issue with Altras
It only stresses the Achilles of those with atrophied feet. Admittedly, that's most Western cultures. You know, because "fashion".

It's not like zero drop is some sort of new thing; the overwhelming majority of human history didn't feature the stupid raised-heel shoe of modern times. Modern shoes "fix" problems they caused in the first place. They're garbage, full stop.

Most people walk with heavily padded shoes, which weaken feet muscles. But in western footwear you are programmed to seek cushion. Similar to how mattresses without any firmness are unnatural for our spines.

As some have pointed out they shot up for the sale. They are normally 20 dollars. I have a automatic price checker that told me this wasn't a good deal.
What automatic price checker?

So you don't want functionally "barefoot" shoes, just fashionable shoes that happen to be wide?

Just go to a traditional shoe store and try on wide shoes, buy whatever looks nice to you. A "barefoot" shoe (a term I take issue with, but I understand why it's used) is kind of pointless if you aren't interested in improving your foot health. Literally no one who wants a shoe with support is happy with a true minimalist shoe since those two concepts are at odds with each other.

Usually even if I get a wide in a normal shoe my big toe tends to be cramped. On the wider toe box shoes I don't have issue. More minimal shoes tend to beat up on my joints

Toe box is VERY wide (and I have somewhat wide feet), I previously had a pair and they looked like clown shoes.

Not bad I like them. I wonder if they have a more rugged version available.

First time I would be purchasing Barefoot shoes. Do I order my normal shoe size or go smaller or larger than normal?
I go smaller but that's because my feet don't fit in "normal" width shoes. I have to wear 11's in most shoes for my feet to fit (and there's a huge gap of empty space in the front that causes me to trip often). I wear 9's in wide toe shoes. I say it depends if you normally have space in the front of your normal shoe size, if so I'd go smaller!

This comment combined with the previous reply from another SDer about referring to measure my foot really helps out with the decision making process. Thanks for your time writing back to me! ๐Ÿ˜€
