AIRHAS zero drop barefoot gym shoes are a low cost way to try minimalist footwear, especially for lifting, squats, and short gym sessions. The wide toe box, breathable upper, and all black look get strong marks, and the shoes can feel true to size or slightly small depending on foot shape. The main tradeoff is very little padding, so longer walks, standing, or sensitive feet can feel uncomfortable. Fit also seems inconsistent, with some reports of a tight top or narrow build, so sizing carefully matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • The toe box is wide, but the shoe can still feel narrow or tight on top for some feet. That makes them a better fit for some wide-footed shoppers than others, especially if you dislike a snug, sock-like fit or have hammer toes.

  • Fit guidance is inconsistent enough that measuring your foot length against the size chart is important, and one page note says to go up a half size. Some buyers found them true to size or slightly small, while others saw the chart suggest unexpectedly small sizes, so checking the longer foot measurement is the safest approach.

  • They can work for all-day wear for some people, with one report of 15k steps in a day without issues. The tradeoff is very little padding, so others found them uncomfortable for walks longer than about 20 minutes or for prolonged standing.

  • Yes, they are commonly used for lifting, squats, and gym workouts because the zero-drop, low-cushion design gives a stable base. They also work as a low-cost entry into minimalist shoes, though they are not ideal if you want cushioning for longer walks.

  • Yes. Zero-drop and minimalist shoes can stress the Achilles and calves at first, so easing into them gradually is recommended; some people needed about a month to adapt before they felt comfortable.

I got a pair a few months ago for the same price. Not as nice as xero shoes or merrel vapor gloves. But differences matter less when the point of a minimalist shoe is to do almost nothing.

Feels and looks a bit more "sneaker like" on the uppers compared to other minimalist shoes (for example the other cheap option on amazon, whitin). But they have the wide toe box, zero drop, and low cushioning when you take out the included insole

I think a lot of people won't like the no-cushion aspect (use insole or maybe get a better one). but the wide toebox seems like something everyone should try. The human foot is really supposed to be shaped this way with toes splayed out much more than in conventional shoe design
Spot on, could use more cushion

They don't retain their shape and look terrible on your foot. Also not comfortable. I will not buy again.

I have been wearing zero drop, wide toe shoes for many years now.
These are terrible. Way to narrow and the material breaks down quickly. Shoes are falling apart after a month of light wear.

I typically order Whitin brand from Amazon and the quality and fit on them is great.

I bought these last time they were on sale for $20 bucks and I don't feel like they were even worth that much unfortunately.

Took me awhile to get used to zero drop sneakers but I love my altra torren 8s now. Expensive as hell and you really feel the burn the first month or so in your ankles.

Just got these in today. Fit seems true to size. They actually are not even as thin as I was expecting. I wore some New Balance Minimus shoes years ago as well as the Vibram Five Fingers and those were really lightweight and low profile, I loved those. These shoes feel like they weigh almost as much as a "regular" shoe and have a decent sized outsole, not necessarily "cushion" but it's definitely a substantial layer between your foot and the ground. With really low profile shoes you can feel every little pebble and crack on the ground. If anything these are more like a middle ground between low profile and regular shoes. I'm looking forward to trying out this wide toe box though.

Had considered these, until I read about the low-cushioning thing about them.

I have the hardest time finding sneakers or shoes, as I need a wide toe box. Even 4Es from most regular sneaker brands usually feel tight and uncomfortable.

Only brand I can go with is New Balance, where 2E usually is fine there depending on the model. Any other brands similar to this, or should I just stick with New Balance?

Would something like this be good for shoes to be worn inside the house? Trying to find something that is better than plain socks but not full sneakers so that my feet have room to breath and relax.

I use water shoes but with a rubber sole with traction. Use them to use the exercise bike but they can be used as house shoes for sure and obviously breathable ones.

Like this review: Who Should Buy These? ✓ The comfort-first person — You've suffered through enough "stylish but torturous" shoes to know better ✓ Barefoot shoe curious — You want to dip your toe (pun intended) into minimalist footwear without sacrificing support ✓ The gym rat — These are fantastic for workouts, walking, casual days, basically anything that isn't Search term:formal wear ✓ Anyone with wider feet or toe box sensitivities — These are a revelation ✓ People who value function over form — Your feet will thank you, even if your Instagram feed won't Who Might Pass ✗ The shoe fashionista — If your footwear makes a statement, make sure it's the statement you want to make ✗ Conventional style over everything — You'd spend all your time explaining the toe box instead of enjoying the comfort Final Thoughts These shoes prove that you don't have to choose between comfort and quality—but you might have to choose between comfort and conventional aesthetics. AIRHAS made their choice, and it's the right one. They've created a shoe that respects the human foot while delivering the support and comfort level most of us have been secretly wishing for. The blue color is nice. The construction is solid. The weight is perfect. But the real star here is that toe box—the moment you stop thinking it's weird and start thinking it's wonderful, you'll understand why these become daily walkers so quickly.

Why would they need more cushion? This is for people who don't have weak feet from decades of over-cushioned shoes with raised heels. If someone wants to continue ruining their feet, they have literally the entire shoe industry catering to them, with millions in marketing convincing them them to "fix" the problems their crappy shoes have caused.

I bought these and had to return them. they feel cheap and terrible. I was hoping for a backup for my rutsu barefoot shoes, which were cheap and do not feel terrible.
