Has anyone had experience with Dell laptop refurb returns? I just need something that will last 5 hours or so. They claim it should last 7 hours in "mixed workflows" but there are tons of people complaining that their Dell Latitudes only last 2 hours. Would that be sufficient to be able to return without paying shipping and restocking fees, if the battery life didn't meet my expectations?
I bought one a few years ago and the battery was good. I've also heard that if they're really bad upon arrival, you can contact them and they'll get a better one.But to be honest, I have an older Latitude I bought new from Dell Outlet, and even with a brand new battery, it never really got good battery life.

Especially compared these latest MacBooks and Arm windows machines. Older Intels are just power hungry, and the 32Gb of ram uses a lot.

Regarding battery life, if it's less than 80 percent, they will ship you a new battery.

As per my understanding, it is ddr5 for P series Intel 13th gen CPUs and ddr4 for U series CPUs.
https://www.intel.com/content/www...tions.html

Memory Types

Up to DDR5 5200 MT/s
Up to DDR4 3200 MT/s
Up to LPDDR5/x 6400 MT/s
Up to LPDDR4x 4267 MT/s

So it can be either DDR4 or DDR5.

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...440-laptop

Dell lists both as well for this model.

Removable RAM, FWIW.. but it's not clear whether it's DDR4 or DDR5. Probably DDR4.SSD is removable too, but looks like it only takes the smaller size 2230 drives.
The need to look for 2230 sized SSD drives is a bummer. Nice deal otherwise.

Dell 5440's were released March 2023 and if these are 3 year off lease they should be in decent shape. many don't even leave the desk and just stay docked so it may be in pristine. Luck of the draw I guess.

I bought one and it had a crap battery and they wouldn't replace it so your results may vary. I just bought a battery off ebay for like $30 or less.

Given current component pricing this is either a really good deal if it's DDR4 or such a good deal people should be buying it just to strip the ram/SSD from it if DDR5 lol. Nice share.

Last month, a seller tried to sell me this refurbished configuration for $580. It uses 32G ddr4. He had 3 units. As I was researching, all 3 units were sold. People were willing to buy this for $580. Now, it is under $400. It seems to be a bargain.
FYI, 2 x 16G DDR5 sodimm is $450.

I looked up the service ID after ordering on the order confirmation and Dell's service site says it's ddr5.

The good news the replacement battery is not expensive.

I ordered refurbished Dell Latitude 7400 in 2022. The battery lasted about only 45 min. They said they would give me a replacement battery from storage. Then, they said there was no more. Rather, they offered me around $25 refund for me to buy a generic battery in Amazon. I did order one from Amazon with a lifespan of 3 to 4 years. I just bought another replacement battery from ebay for around $25.
