It dawned on my this evening that some of the younger SDer's may not be familiar with the Dell Refurnished 'scam'. People think in terms of a HP refurbished machine, bought at Costco and returned and resold as 'refurbished', nearly new. Not these machines. These laptops have been on a business lease for three years and are used daily, weekly, who knows? They are fully depreciated by the leasing company and returned at some nominal cost to a company (maybe not even Dell) - who basically cleans them and resells them for an enormous profit. I know the scam, accept the risk and look for the deals. But for Dell (or FedEx rumored?) to call these machines 'refurbished' is really false advertising. It's more like buying a used car from Hertz or Avis. Good luck to all, including me!

As per my understanding, it is ddr5 for P series Intel 13th gen CPUs and ddr4 for U series CPUs.
Mine is a U series and it has DDR5 ram.

I bought two dell refurbished 5000 series latitudes years ago. A 8th gen and 11 gen, both were like new and are still working with no issues. I may have been lucky.

I only ordered from Dell Refurbished once. I can't tell if it is "scam". I bought a refurbished Dell Latitude 7400 in 2022 for around $240 in Grade A format with 16G ddr4, 256G ssd. However, Grade A means only the appearance.
The laptop has audio driver issue. It has to stay with old audio driver. And the USB A port is not working properly. The remedy is to use a USB hub in the USB C port.

Another problem is it does not work with 1T ssd. I ordered a 1T ssd in 2022. It gave me blue screen, so I put back the original 256G ssd. Then, I tested it with 512G ssd and it works. Maybe it is the BIOS issue. I did not find out all these issues on Day 1. I found out gradually.

Again, I ordered from them once in 2022, and I have not ordered anything from them again.

I thought it was just me. I don't know if other people have issues.

It reads like a scam because you don't know the definition of the word "scam." How Dell gets the devices is not relevant to the equation. A scam implies trickery which this isn't.

These devices are a bad deal if you pay full price but isn't any more of a scam than making a Nike in China for 10 dollars and selling it in the U.S for over 100 dollars. I suppose that is what we will call a scam since it is priced too high, the problem is your argument isn't that.
Before dell refurbhished I used to buy a lot of refurbished computers through eBay and Newegg and they definitely did not work.

I started buying laptops from dell refurbished on "Sale" and while some of them might not work, they have always taken it back and replaced it. The only drawback is that the support isn't as fast as the regular dell support.

I will say though, do not buy a No OS laptop from dell. I used to get the No OS versions because it was cheaper and occasionally I would return it because the OS was Intune locked.
