The turtles and Splinter didn't have any of the personality that we've come to expect. They essentially all just turned dumb. Only one of the turtle's actions made sense based on the story and his personality. Also, the big bad guy was a man baby with granddaddy issues, and completely forgettable.
I might not have been the target audience though as I grew up with the turtles NES games, trading cards, and 90s TV show and movie, and as an adult I've watched the later cartoon series with my kids, and have seen the TMNT Mutant Mayhem movie, but I've never read any of the comics until this book, so maybe this hits harder with those familiar with the comics?
