That is true. I bought one and some labels. By the amount of labels that i use, i think its more than fine because they are not that expensive and i think it might take me years to go through one set of labels. Do you have a better brand to recommend to people?

good to know! any recommendations for a label maker to look out for that doesn't do this? I'm in the camp of "it'd be nice to have one, but I'm not at all in a rush", so it doesn't have to be on sale right now.

Notice the haters always omit a recommendation? Or they'll suggest one that the initial buy price only makes sense if you plan to constantly buy generic replacement labels and can subsidize the higher printer price over many orders in the tiny savings by buying off brand labels. Once you finally figure out which no name labels actually works well with the printer, after a bunch of trial and error...and wasted money in the process.

Just search for "thermal label printer" or "mini thermal label printer" on AliExpress or Temu. No label lock in and they work well. They often go on sale for about $8-15 for this size label. Avoid the ones that indicate niimbot brand.

They are also versions that print larger labels (40x40, 50x50, 50x80, etc) for about $20-30. I got the Phomemo M110.

Both types require using a dedicated Android/iOS app and do not support printing from a computer.

I really like the supvan label makers and they do not enforce use of their labels.

I have a couple of Brother P-Touch label makers that I bought 10-12 years ago. They use generics like this one. A 7-pack for $24.

I bought this deal a few weeks ago. I like this printer very much. At that time, I also bought a 3-roll pack of Niimbot labels. Price per label: 9/10ths of one cent. Less than one penny. How much cheaper does a label need to get? Sheesh!

Less than a penny per label? Care to share the link?

At the time I ordered, I paid $13 for the three rolls. That was without a coupon or any other special offer. To me, it appeared to be its normal price. Check the price history. You'll see what I mean.
