Say more. Is there a way to just store the video yourself instead of on some subscription

But there's all different kinds of trash. Non-existent customer support, not as weatherproof as you'd expect, poor depth of field, problems with contrast and/or color saturation, ad naseum. So why they are trash is really useful info, for example if I mount it on the front steps I can probably skip the night vision given my front lights - but for my back door that would be a deal killer.

Hmmm...replace my Gen 1 cameras for cheap (but continue to hate the slow ecosystem and avoid paying for the way-too-expensive subscription) or just pay more and start over with a new system with better detection and a cheaper subscription...

how about the type of trash that screws you on the credit card bill... I couldnt reach anyone to cancel my subscription and arlo had the area to cancel it on their website "greyed" out !! had to file complaint with credit card to cancel..

I shifted from Arlo to Reolink. Two years subscription fee of Arlo is more expensive than Reolink with your own hub

All of the above, plus cameras that constantly lose connection to homebase or disappear from your system completely, billing issues, nonexistent customer support, random suddenly outdated hardware......and on and on and on and.....

Run from Arlo. Run.

Hey I worked at Arlo and they gave us free 4k cameras with dev keys for lifetime subscription for free..but I don't use them due to instability and privacy concerns (they might be spying on when we goto work!). I have Blink instead with local sync module hub for free storage

Why do you need a hub for Reolink? I don't need one for any of mine...

They shot themselves in the foot by requiring subs (and not supporting their own hub on many models), and then doubled down by increasing prices, cancelling older plans.

Probably will not touch an Arlo, unless they go back... say 5 years
