Just curious, why would one want this over a regular suitcase? Legit question, I'm curious.
To go to Europe with all the cobblestones. Or somewhere else where there is a lot of rugged terrain. Spinner wheels get beat to hell on cobblestones. Inline wheels are a lot more sturdy. It's kinda hard to find a regular suitcase with inline wheels any more.
Also it's slightly lighter than a comparable size hard shell suitcase. So it helps slightly when you're close to that 50lb weight limit.

This brand is also marketed for sports such as snowboarding, skiing & surfing, so this style and brand allows more durability in rougher environments. You can toss duffels and not worry about the case cracking or swivel wheels snapping off. But even if something does break, Dakine also is known for amazing lifetime warranty and customer service, and i personally have had a great experience getting warranty replacements.
For just going through airports and regular flat floors i much prefer a hardcase spinner, but when going through rough streets, gravel, snow or sand areas and where my bags are being thrown around with jagged snowboard, climbing or other gear i prefer this.
this looks nice. I bought an Eagle Creek one a few years ago, which is pretty high quality, but it has no spine and the wheels are so big that packing isn't an option like the Samsonite tote-a-tons that I use.
