Buyer beware. This unit is 38,000 BTU which is the same as the discounted 36" griddle that they manufacture for Walmart. This is compared to 60,000 BTU for their regular units. Blackstone claims that the lower BTU griddles have a more efficient heating system but my experience with both is that the 60,000 BTU unit gets much hotter. When I had the 36,000 unit the meat would not sear and would steam more than brown. Just sharing my own experience.

Agree the 60,000 BTU is what i only would get and have a friend that agreed. I have the better one he bought it a while after i bought mine and then learned how much hotter mine got and better it worked as a griddle.

This information is HUGE. I was about to buy this. I assume 60,000 BTU is more money, but if I'm going to get one I don't want to regret getting the cheap one. Thanks!

Just swap out the propane hose for one for a turkey fryer. It's less than $20 and only takes 4 minutes for the swap.
Close up the sides to retain more heat. Thats what BS did with the Omnivore, they added built in the wind guards. Buy the wind guards yourself, use metal flashing , or use thise all metal bench scrapers/food choppers with the curled handle sold at Dollar Tree they hang around the griddle perimeter the griddle rims. Keeping the heat in used less propane. I have this model from Tractor Supply the bench scrapers fixed the issue.

All the omnivore has is closed up sides along the perimeter to retain heat. You can do that yourself. If your griddle isn't hot enough open the value to propane tank as slow as possible. When you open it fast it trips that anti leak valve. My older model from 36" from Tractor Supply gets super hot searing meat beautifully. I cook on medium setting.
