For the great majority of people, taking two of these per week is way more than enough.
1000 IU a day is well above the minimum daily requirement.
And 2000 IU a day is, for most people, comfortably enough below dosage levels which, if taken daily for months or years, can create serious health problems.
The recommended upper limit for self-dosing is 4000 IU, but that limit has been set conservatively low, so that *most* people taking more than that amount don't face much danger.
A doctor will sometimes prescribe higher doses like 5000 IU per day, and even up to 50,000 IU per day, for patients who will benefit from those higher doses in the reversal of D3 deficiency.
Of course, this is done under a physician's advice and supervision, and for the duration required to restore normal levels.
And the effects of overdosing on vitamin D3 are pretty grim.
It takes time, so don't let the lack of sudden onset of serious symptoms fool you into a false complacency.
Excess vitamin D3 is stored in your body's fatty tissues and the liver.
When those stored levels become sufficiently high, your body starts absorbing too much calcium from your dietary intake, and maintains adversely high levels of calcium in your blood.
Your kidneys will suffer the most, but they will not suffer alone.
Other tissues in the body, including the heart valves, can begin to calcify.
Some say that at night, when it's quiet, you can hear them.*
* As far as I know, no one has ever said this.
