There are some that are identical but a majority aren't. Different size and form factors.
As someone who does construction for over 25+ years, I wish even the crappiest of these were around when I started. That said we've bought kits of various brands for our guys to go out and use. We've also used brand name ones like Kleins, Bosch, and Dewalts as well and can confirm the bang for the buck are these "Chinese" ones. At $50-100 they have more than paid for themselves on the first job whether we are installing recessed lights, marking/leveling/squaring tiles, framing check etc...
We've dropped plenty of lasers, kicked them around on accident, etc etc. Compared to a $300 Klein or Dewalt... There's a lot less heartache and fear of loss/damage with these.
A Few Cons:
Battery life sucks, rotating between 2 batteries most of the time does the job. A lot of times we use the crossbeams for reference and then use shotlines so we don't waste battery.
Most batteries are non compatible with other brands (for those who assume they are made from one Chinese factory lol). Good luck buying additional batteries for some of these brands.
The branded lasers last about 25% longer.
Some of the cheaper ones the lasers don't go as far and the lines aren't as dark.
