These Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA batteries stand out for cold weather and other high drain uses, with strong performance called out for freezer sensors, fridge areas, and Nest smoke detectors. The price also looks attractive, especially with Subscribe and Save bringing the 8 pack down to $8.55 with tax in one case. The main caution is compatibility, since several lock brands recommend alkaline batteries instead of lithium because the flat discharge curve can delay low battery warnings or even cause problems. There is also concern about Amazon counterfeit risk and disposal fees for non rechargeable lithium cells, so they fit best where lithium chemistry is actually needed.

  • These lithium AA batteries can work well in freezing temperatures for devices like a freezer temperature sensor.

  • These batteries can be used in cold areas such as fridges where Eneloop may not perform as well.

  • Subscribe & Save can reduce the 8-pack price to about $8.55 including tax.

  • Lithium AA batteries can still provide a low-battery indicator in some doorbell setups.

  • Amazon purchases can carry counterfeit risk, including concerns about packaging differences and inventory co-mingling.

  • Door-lock manufacturers such as Yale and Kwikset recommend against lithium batteries because the voltage profile can prevent accurate low-battery warnings.

  • Lithium AA batteries can fail suddenly without a low-battery warning in some lock systems like Schlage.

  • Lithium AA batteries are non-rechargeable and disposal may involve a local fee.

Lots of fakes, check them carefully. Last time I bought on amz they looked like real once but with intermixing of products you never know for sure
These are from the Energizer store. I would think those at least would be legit.

Interesting! After investigating, I found the specific reason, where Kwikset (my lock brand) concurs w/ the alkaline rec!
Alkaline vs. Lithium:
The Kwikset Verdict
Kwikset recommends Alkaline batteries because Lithium batteries have a flat discharge curve that can prevent the 'low battery' warning from triggering until the lock is dead.
Ok, but then how does my Nest smoke detector provide its low battery warning? Seems there is obviously a way that some have figured out.

How do you know which are fakes?

Just did the 24 count energizer deal from the other day and it came in a box (6 boxes of 4) rather than a sealed container. And the boxes are not sealed.

I chose to go with lithium for situations that warrant such as areas that I know will run cold such as the fridge. I've read that eneloop do not perform optimally in cold temps so I run them in areas that work well for it.

smoke detectors use less power than locks are less affected,

but alkaline leak can also kill a lock, i vote give up alkaline, add super capacitors to locks that don't support lithium low battery

That means nothing if it is shipped by Amazon. Unless things have changed very recently, Amazon co-mingles inventory, so batteries from Energizer go in the same bin as inventory from LULZFAKEBATTS.

How do you check for fakes?
With the latest tech at their disposal, the manufacturers will have everything similar to the originals.
Amazon should stop commingling, but with so many products, suppliers and sellers, and so few distribution centers, it's bound to happen..
Probably buy it when the seller and shipper is both scamazon, or an official channel for the product.
