I know absolutely nothing about generators beyond I want one after losing power for over 48 hours. Would this be a good option for home use, or do I need something else?

Yeah this would be very good to have for outages! It's pretty decent wattage for the price and should power 2 radiator heaters in an emergency. And should power a fridge as well. I lost power for 5 days and was lucky my pipes didn't freeze during the ice storms. Promised myself I would jump on one of these if one went on sale. I had to goto my dad's house who had to go buy a $900 generator Last year when they was hard to find. I'm not sure if it's a good choice to plug into a actual home, but for using a extension cord and keeping warm I'd say it should work.

This is really, very tempting. Compared to Costco deals, the I only missing feature would be (to my untrained eye) tri power option that's missing natural gas.
Does anyone know any other major issue, I know their $800 unit was 8000W depending on source probably gasoline gives you highest?
Maybe they also has few more direct outlets compared to this? My only worry is Kobalt brand and lack of parts but 3 yr warranty is fine

Also you can the battery start version under $400

The one you link is an inverter type so quieter and more efficient but happens to be only 120V for regular receptacles and RV. So depends on if you need it for anything that is 240V or if you were trying to connect to a home panel.

Having 240v is important if you have a well pump and electric stove that requires 240v. Propane is great for short runs as you don't have to worry about stale gasoline fouling the carburetor and having to drain the tank after use. Stored propane doesn't go stale. If you have Natural Gas at your home, then a Tri-Fuel may be a better choice.

In for one. If El Nino comes to fruition like I recall it did in 1982 here in SoCal, this will be well worth the purchase. We live on a dirt road and it'll definitely get torn up and who knows about power. And I have 200gal of propane sitting in my pool heater tank. Plenty of fuel. I'll be ready... hopefully.

The bad reviews aren't even for the product itself. It's about shipping mistakes and someone trying to return it for a refund after putting gas in it. You can't get a refund once gas hits a stuff like this.

How much do they go down to? And the wattage?
