The Amazon reviews are really good, and it sells for double there.

5lbs is pretty heavy for backpacking. My two person sea to summit is under 3 lbs. but it was also 4x this sale price.

But this isn't bad if you're traveling with someone and can divide up the weight I suppose.

It's certainly a solid design. It has the two minimum criteria I consider necessary in a backpacking tent: a full coverage rainfly and aluminum (as opposed to fiberglass) poles. 2.2kg = about 4.5lbs, which isn't unreasonable for a backpacking tent that isn't made of exotic materials (e.g. silnylon fabric and carbon fiber poles - at a far higher purchase price).

The PU 3000mm/4000mm waterproof rating, dual entries and vestibules are all desirable features. Even the 3-sided (picture a cross section that looks like the Mercedes logo without the outer circle) aluminum tent stakes are a step up from the cheap (and bendy) wire steel or aluminum stakes you usually see on budget tents.

I don't own this tent so take my observations as just one data point. But if I were on a limited budget and in the market for a decent backpacking 2-person tent (as opposed to those worthless $20-$30 backyard play tents you often see here on SD), I bet I'd be hard pressed to find a better deal.

if you have never used a lightweight backpacking tent before, keep in mind that they are all very tight space for two people and you will most likely store you packs/gear outside the tent.

I have another UL tent of theirs (Star River 2) and really like it. I like this brand and would buy this if I needed another tent

I have this tent and spent double this price for it. Finally used it just 2 weeks ago on a motorcycle camp trip. Seems like a solid unit and worked out great. Comes with the footprint too which is nice. Feels like a good quality tent. Seems on par or better than my Kelty that I've had for years

Such a niche deal.

How is this so heavy? The MSR hubba for 1 person is ~ 2 pounds. Different classes?

I have this, used it twice. The only reason I havent used it more is because I'm 6 3...if you're taller than 6 1, be aware that you're feet and your head will be brushing against the walls of the tent. Besides that, it's a fantastic tent

Well, consider your question and I bet you can answer it yourself. You're comparing a premium $500 1-person tent with a budget $65 2-person tent. Why do you find the weight difference surprising?
