This Blackstone stainless steel burger press is mainly for smash burgers and flat searing, with enough weight to improve contact and give an even crust. The slim, lightweight shape makes it easy to handle and store, and stainless steel is easier to clean than cast iron, even dishwasher friendly. It also works for holding bacon down or pressing burgers straight down with less fuss than a wide spatula. The main knocks are that it feels too light for some, the ribbed back can stick to burgers, and cast iron is still seen as better for heat retention and versatility.

  • Smash-burger cooks who want better contact and an even sear, because the press is heavy enough to keep patties flat on the surface.

  • Griddle cooks who want a press that is easy to clean, because stainless steel is simpler to wash than cast iron and can go in the dishwasher.

  • Home cooks pressing bacon or two burgers at a time, because the press is light enough to move around yet still holds bacon down.

  • Burger cooks who prefer a straight-down smash over a wide spatula, because this tool makes that motion easier.

  • Cooks who want a heavy, heat-holding press for top crust, because this thin stainless design only smashes the patty instead of searing the top.

  • Smash-burger cooks who hate sticking, because the ribbed surface can grab the patty and tear it apart when lifting.

  • Grill cooks using slotted grates, because the liquid can smoke off instead of staying under the meat and the burger cooks in its own fat.

  • People who need a press that stays cool in hand, because stainless and cast-iron presses can get hot without an insulated handle.

I got one that's ribbed and many times when I go to lift it, the burger has parts stuck to the iron and the pan pulling my burger apart. Not every time but maybe 1 out of 6

Why? Cast iron is much more versatile IMHO.
Much more hassle to clean cast iron than stainless steel

I ordered this. Six minutes later I recieved an email that I ordered another item from blackstone (I didnt). I only noticed when it arrived, and the item that arrived is not the item I "ordered", so I can't even return it. Is this a scam?

Oh I cook with a fair amount of cast iron and I agree with you with ribbed plates. I use flat cast iron plates which are a breeze to clean.

I think part of the appeal of this over cast iron (aside from the weight) is the ease of cleaning. Some folks just want to throw a stainless steel utensil in the dishwasher and not deal with cast iron clean-up.
Why not throw cast iron in dishwasher? F@ck it.

Jk 😂

I asked Alexa. How much does it weigh. Here is the response I got (in italics). The Blackstone Smash & Sear Press weighs 1 pound, 1 ounce (16 ounces / 1.85 lbs).Customers mention it's the perfect weight—heavy enough to create an excellent smash and sear, but not so heavy that it causes hand fatigue during use.I asked a follow up question. 'Are you sure. 1 pound, 1 ounce should be 17 ounces or 1.0625 lbs.' Alexa's response is in Italics. You're absolutely right, and I apologize for the conversion error. The Blackstone Smash & Sear Press weighs 1.85 pounds (or 29.6 ounces).1 pound + 1 ounce = 17 ounces total, which would be 1.0625 lbs — so thank you for catching that mistake.
Alexa can't even turn the lights on consistently. I wouldn't trust her for accurate answers.

It got so bad that I got the Apple smart home spyware hub so if Alexa has a brain fart, I can ask Siri.

Siri comes with a whole different set of problems - most of all, if you don't also own an iPhone, she will straight up REFUSE to do what you ask... No reminders or smart functionality unless you also own the overpriced POS iPhone.

I regret buying both Amazon Echo with Alexa and the Apple Home Pod, and I should have been happy turning light switches on and off manually with my hands - it's so much easier!

Thanks for reading 🙏🏽

I don't understand why people want to press out all the juices. That's what makes a burger taste good.
You've apparently never had a smash burger. It doesn't smash the juice out of it at all. You smash it before it cooks. Many people complain that they are too greasy/juicy. They are the best. They are so good there is literally a restaurant chain called smashburger. They are in 7 countries with over 240 locations including coors field. I made one of the best smashburgers I've ever had in my life the other day. It was so good I ate it with nothing on it. Just onions smashed into the meat, red robin seasoning and American cheese. No ketchup, pickles mustard or anything. Absolutely delicious. Youtube is your friend. Do your mouth a favor and look up how to properly make one.

Very tempted, but currently use parchment paper and bottom of small saucepan which already works well. This just seems like one more thing to store.

So I tried this: parchment and large ceramic ramekin- and it works ok. My problem is when I flip it, it tightens up again and curves upward, so it doesn't finish like a traditional smash. End up still being a hockey puck.
