And for toilets that don't have a kaboom, I drill a hole through the center of the bromine tab, put fishing line through it, and drop it down into the innards of the toilet. I tie the fishing line off through the overflow drain in the tank. It doesn't sit in water constantly, it only gets wet when a flush happens, and this seems to make it last much longer, while still being effective at preventing nasty stuff from forming. You seem to need very very little of the actual bromine to make the bowl water inhospitable to things that grow.
Community Reviews
These Vacplus tablets are mainly used to keep toilet bowls cleaner and reduce water stains, and they work well in Kaboom-style setups. The bleach action is strong, with a sharp odor that hits hardest at first, and some people stretch the tabs by cutting them in half or using them every two to four weeks. The main caution is possible wear on rubber seals, gaskets, and flappers when tablets sit in the tank, though bowl-only setups avoid that concern. A practical pick if you want bowl cleaning and can handle the bleach smell.

Having read the previous caveats from earlier posts, I just toss a tablet in an old jar, let it sit and just pour the solution into the bowl overnight. Refill and let it sit during the day. No worries about the tank and parts. It IS strong and you get a big whiff of it when you open the jar, so beware. If you're worried about mineral build up in the tank try a cup or two of vinegar over a day or more if it's feasible.
Saying that, I've tried these… they have an overpowering bleach smell. Like really bad. Now I use Lowe's Bromine jacuzzi tablets. They work better for the kaboom.
What product at Lowe's? When I look online I see a few brands: Clorox, Mav AquaDoc, Spa Choice. I'd like to try something that won't have a strong smell.
