  • What if the path to wealth isn't about timing the market or picking hot stocks, or even about paying someone else to do it for you? What if it's actually about following a radically simple plan that's not only easier to implement, but also more lucrative than the alternatives?
  • Drawing from fifty years of investing experience, and born out of a series of letters the author wrote to his daughter, The Simple Path to Wealth has become foundational to the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement, inspiring hundreds of thousands of readers to reimagine their relationship with money and freedom. The real-world success of Collins' approach is documented in Pathfinders, his collection of stories from readers who have transformed their financial lives using his method.
  • Whether you care deeply about money, or never want to think about it at all, you're living in a culture of spending. Everyone's telling you that handing over your cash for this gadget, this potion, this lifestyle is the key to happiness. Meanwhile, the reality is that happiness is more likely to come from having the financial freedom to live the life you really want.
  • Whatever your relationship with money, you will be heartened by Collins' essential insight, which is that simplicity beats complexity every time.
  • This comprehensive guide covers everything from debt elimination to optimizing retirement accounts, all while exposing the marketing myths and investment industry practices that keep most people from building real wealth. Collins shares specific, actionable strategies for both wealth-building and wealth-preservation phases, with a straightforward approach to asset allocation that anyone can implement.

This is a fantastic book, but as the saying goes "you can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink". Studies have shown that about 2/3 of adults in the US are financially illiterate. Of the ones that are literate, a majority still lack the discipline to grow wealth. Yes a good paying job helps but Ramsey Solutions found that teachers account for a large percentage of millionaires despite having below average income. And many people with high paying jobs still lack the discipline to save. So discipline is a requirement, higher income just makes it easier for those with the discipline.

It's a beginner mindset book with a purpose to change your mentality towards investing. It's not all encompassing. And the author actually changed his stance since writing this book and says he now recommends that you diversify in both total US market and total INTL market index funds.

With that said, I have not read the book but I gave the book to a friend of mine who found it very helpful. I only bought it since it served as also a gift. If I was looking to read the book I would just get it from my local library for free. It's a quick read.

As far as investing is concerned. VTI and chill is really easy and is basically all that most people during wealth building phase will ever need honestly. It's wise to have some diversification though so one should consider VTI + VXUS in whatever allocation they are comfortable with. Many are simplifying the approach all together and just investing in VT, which is VTI + VXUS combined into a single ETF that tracks market cap of the entire world. The downside is slightly higher ER, and loss of FTC. For most, this may not matter as much as the benefits of just shoveling money into a single world market ETF and not worrying about it over the next 30+ years.

A great website for playing around with compound growth over time: https://www.investor.gov/financia...calculator. As you play around with the calculator....if you can get yourself to a $65,000 salary and contribute at least 5% into your retirement account with a 5% employer match, assuming a 8% return over say 40 years, you will have $1.8 Million. Adjust the variables accordingly and you will see the power of compounding growth over time.

A dependable inner circle is easily the highest-yield asset you can hold. While financial stability handles practical logistics, relational wealth is what actually absorbs life's volatility—the people who show up without fanfare, offer honest perspective when you need grounding, and make the good seasons worth celebrating.
Investing time, care, and presence into deep, reciprocal bonds builds a safety net and a sense of belonging that no balance sheet can replicate. True prosperity is rarely about what you accumulate in isolation; it comes down to the quality of the company you keep and knowing you never have to weather the hard stretches alone.

Step 1: don't buy dumb self help books
This book is honestly phenomenal. I have purchased multiple copies for friends and family who show any interest in financial literacy.

Hack? No. Wrong or misleading on a some things? Definitely.

The show is meant for simple folk who've wandered into debt, coaching them up with behavioral changes to get them out.

Where it breaks down is where he wants listeners in his referral network of investment advisors, realtors, mortgage lenders, and insurance brokers. These make money for the show.

Saving 15% of income in after-tax retirements accounts is smart. Insisting those have to be in managed mutual funds with an advisor that takes a 1% commission isn't.

Ramsey show advice can be part of one's financial plan but it shouldn't be the only one.

Though this can be helpful, these books aren't entirely necessary. IF your goal is to be more free and have more options and want to be different compared to so many others (who will work until they're 65-70, if not longer in some cases), then it is possible to cut all the fat, and focus only on the true essentials and looking into free/very cheap hobbies in a minimalistic manner, and the result is you live well below your means and will end up having a lot more money than your peers through discipline and deferred gratification and money is definitely power in a lot of ways, so that should be incentive enough but oddly enough many would read this and think "No way!" and to each their own! As for the investment side, just stick to the big three investment firms (Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab) and low cost highly diversified index funds and let it ride and keep adding as much as possible to the pot. Even those on a lower-mid end salary can make sacrifices to come ahead and be more secure. Up to each individual to WANT it enough, and if they don't, that's cool too!
