Unless you want to run local AI models or huge textures and need the extra VRAM, you might also want to look at the $1499 5070Ti variant [walmart.com] which is going to be virtually the same for gaming due to the 115W TDP cap.

5080 desktop is significantly more powerful than the mobile 5080, not even close. 5070ti would pair better with 5800x3d imo.

It's very rough, but you can think of laptop gpu preformance as about 2 levels below a desktop gpu. So a 5080 laptop gpu is similar in performance to a 5060/5070 desktop.

To add to this, a mobile 5080 has more in common with other mobile GPUs of the same generation (5050-5070) than it does with a desktop 5080

Way better. For $100 more you get 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SDD over 16 GB/512 GB.

The vector's only advantage is better gaming performance when the RAM isn't bottlenecked, but it's heavier and bulkier and higher power draw as a result. People who are serious about raw power should consider the refurbished $1650 vector with 32 GB/1 TB or the $1800 5080 in the OP.

what is the feedback and general consensus about this brand? I am concerned with the soldered 32GB RAM and needing to replace the entire motherboard for any replacements.

Avoid Gigabyte laptops. Per Gemini: They're not known for quality or longevity. And honestly, the most expensive component on that board will be the dGPU, not that any of them are user-replaceable save for the SSD and maybe the WiFi NIC.

I'd only buy this to flip it on FBM or CL.
