Unless you want to run local AI models or huge textures and need the extra VRAM, you might also want to look at the $1499 5070Ti variant [walmart.com] which is going to be virtually the same for gaming due to the 115W TDP cap.

Isn't this also throttled tk 115 instead of 140?

5800x3d is a weird choice it does not really pair well with a 5080. The CPU will be the bottleneck. Decent for a low end system like a 5050 or 5060.

I had an RTX 4090 paired with this CPU and it ran flawlessly but I gamed mostly at 4K resolution. I know lower resolutions are mostly affected by CPU performance.

The vector's only advantage is better gaming performance when the RAM isn't bottlenecked, but it's heavier and bulkier and higher power draw as a result. People who are serious about raw power should consider the refurbished $1650 vector with 32 GB/1 TB or the $1800 5080 in the OP.

Plus as much as I think Gigabyte is a bottom of the barrel brand on build quality, it's not below the barrel in hell like MSI's is. It's impressive how consistently and how long MSI gaming laptops have had terrible build quality across the board.

Yeah it's 115w still. If you look at the power scaling charts, a 5080 gives you nearly the same performance as a 5070ti at 115w. You're buying silicon you won't be using since 5080 is capable of 160w and that's when it really outpaces the 5070ti. You do get the extra 4gb of VRAM for the extra $350 compared to 5070ti. If you're willing to do that, the money is probably better spent on getting a 140w version of the 5070ti instead.
