The ZenBook A16 stands out as a fast, premium Windows on ARM laptop with a 3K OLED 120 hertz touch display, 48 gigabytes of RAM, and very strong battery life. The Snapdragon X2E94100 feels snappy in everyday use, runs quietly, and can deliver around 10 hours of real work. App compatibility is much better than early ARM fears suggested, but specific programs, some games, and a few utilities still fail or need workarounds. Open box warranty handling and the single M.2 storage slot are the main cautions, though the machine still looks like a capable travel and productivity pick.

  • Mobile workers running office apps and browsers, because the machine feels very snappy and stays quiet in whisper mode.

  • AI hobbyists loading larger local models, because the high memory bandwidth and 48GB RAM help the system feel fast.

  • Windows-on-ARM adopters who can check app compatibility first, because most common software now runs natively or through translation.

  • Traveling professionals who need all-day battery life, because real-world usage can reach about 10 hours on normal work.

  • People who depend on niche Windows utilities, because some programs may not work on ARM and specific apps can be incompatible.

  • Gamers who want broad PC game compatibility, because some titles fail with DRM errors, crashes, or very low frame rates.

  • Buyers who need a laptop that runs Linux today, because Linux support is still immature and not ready for near-term use.

  • Shoppers who want a cool-running machine under sustained load, because overheating and getting too hot are recurring concerns.

Not interested in knowing you either, but check out the sales figures for ARM-based processors compared to Intel. It was also mentioned that this is a concern and is not going to happen tomorrow (may be never), but Microsoft has already pulled the plug on Windows Phone (Silverlight was on the software side). Since the gaming and Linux communities tend to stay away, it impacts the sales figures.

In the current market, Lenovo and other PC makers are increasing the prices of their laptops by almost $1,000. The exact Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i model is listed at Costco for $2,399, while the previous model with the older 285H chipset was sold for $1,000 during Thanksgiving. Here, ASUS is reducing its price from $1,500 in August to $1,370 in September, and when they have almost doubled the price on the new Intel-based model, that speaks volumes.
You're only focusing on this particular SKU's pricing and making a generalized assumption that sales must suck because of it. Here's the other reality, the same model of the A16 but with 1TB (the one I have) was introduced at $1599. Then, it was RAISED to $1699. And right now, that 1TB model is now $1999.99. That is a $400 price increase over when it was released. So be careful what assumptions you claim.

With that said, my guess is the 512GB config isn't selling well at $1900 when you can get the 1TB version for $100 more. So Best Buy is putting their inventory on sale. To back that up, the 1TB version goes in and out of stock often. Maybe it's a better seller than you think.

In any case, it's a blessing in disguise to get people on the Windows ARM bandwagon. Given them a ridiculously fast and feature-filled laptop for $1000 less than a similar Intel unit. Brilliant.

pulled the trigger. looks like it only has one m.2 for the ssd but on the upside its a 2280 so could be worse. gonna upgrade the storage size to pretty much solve its only weakness i can see.
If you're going to clone to a larger SSD (I used a Samsung 990 Pro 2TB), I would recommend using Hasleo Backup Suite and do the cloning live in Windows (not from a bootable portable USB drive). Being ARM is a little different than doing it on an Intel Windows laptop. This ASUS has 16 partitions on the SSD. Hasleo is the only one I could get working as it should. Macrium works but marks the wrong partition as the boot so the target SSD doesn't boot. You can fix it with a some commands to mark the correct partition. Search with Google as there is a reddit thread how to fix it.

Would be great if Linux was an option here.... That'd be an amazing gateway. Looks to be not quite ready.

Isn't it?

Google says about Linux on the A16:

Current Linux Status
• Mainline Patches: Qualcomm engineers have submitted patch series to the Linux kernel to support booting and running the ARM-based Zenbook A16.
• Working Features: Basic hardware features like the display, GPU, audio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and input devices function with ongoing development.
• New EC Driver: A recent asus-glymur-ec driver reported by Phoronix adds fan speed monitoring, temperature readouts, keyboard backlight control, and suspend/resume support.

I'm not a Linux person but it sounds like it mostly works with development of support continuing.

Yeah, still not there yet (mostly developer mode and if you want to take all the pain to make it work).

Not bad but not amazing. Memory bandwidth constrained as expected. You can load larger models which is key but the tokens/sec are going to be lower than cloud models due to the memory bandwidth.
You're going to want to target MoE models rather than dense models whenever possible. Compare Gemma4 to Qwen 3.8 for a good example of that. Similar size models but the MoE runs much faster.

The LG Ultra 7 355 CPU is a decent CPU, but LG is known for throttling their CPU because of the thin profile. Lenovo Slim 7i got a mixed review on Costco. But both of them don't even hold a candle if you look at Geekbench numbers. If this works for your work requirement and budget (~$1500 including tax), then go for it.

Costco is known for 90-day hassle-free returns, and Best Buy only has 15 days. I hope this deal returns in the first week of November, especially since Best Buy has extended the return period until January 15th for regular customers. Also don't have a lot of faith in ASUS warranty claims and support in general.

Check out this deal, and the only grip is 16GB RAM... otherwise, it's a top-notch machine from Acer.

You can always purchase "My Best Buy Plus" for 60 day returns; $30/year. Cancellable if you don't use any of the benefits within some time period. Obviously that's how they get you though Smilie

You are a lifesaver OP. I was 2 hours away from picking up my new MacBook air. I canceled and ordered this instead. And the color perfectly matches my personality, so that's just a bonus
