The ZenBook A16 stands out as a fast, premium Windows on ARM laptop with a 3K OLED 120 hertz touch display, 48 gigabytes of RAM, and very strong battery life. The Snapdragon X2E94100 feels snappy in everyday use, runs quietly, and can deliver around 10 hours of real work. App compatibility is much better than early ARM fears suggested, but specific programs, some games, and a few utilities still fail or need workarounds. Open box warranty handling and the single M.2 storage slot are the main cautions, though the machine still looks like a capable travel and productivity pick.

In the current market, Lenovo and other PC makers are increasing the prices of their laptops by almost $1,000. The exact Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5i model is listed at Costco for $2,399, while the previous model with the older 285H chipset was sold for $1,000 during Thanksgiving. Here, ASUS is reducing its price from $1,500 in August to $1,370 in September, and when they have almost doubled the price on the new Intel-based model, that speaks volumes.
With that said, my guess is the 512GB config isn't selling well at $1900 when you can get the 1TB version for $100 more. So Best Buy is putting their inventory on sale. To back that up, the 1TB version goes in and out of stock often. Maybe it's a better seller than you think.
In any case, it's a blessing in disguise to get people on the Windows ARM bandwagon. Given them a ridiculously fast and feature-filled laptop for $1000 less than a similar Intel unit. Brilliant.

Google says about Linux on the A16:
Current Linux Status
• Mainline Patches: Qualcomm engineers have submitted patch series to the Linux kernel to support booting and running the ARM-based Zenbook A16.
• Working Features: Basic hardware features like the display, GPU, audio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and input devices function with ongoing development.
• New EC Driver: A recent asus-glymur-ec driver reported by Phoronix adds fan speed monitoring, temperature readouts, keyboard backlight control, and suspend/resume support.
I'm not a Linux person but it sounds like it mostly works with development of support continuing.
Not bad but not amazing. Memory bandwidth constrained as expected. You can load larger models which is key but the tokens/sec are going to be lower than cloud models due to the memory bandwidth.
You're going to want to target MoE models rather than dense models whenever possible. Compare Gemma4 to Qwen 3.8 for a good example of that. Similar size models but the MoE runs much faster.

Costco is known for 90-day hassle-free returns, and Best Buy only has 15 days. I hope this deal returns in the first week of November, especially since Best Buy has extended the return period until January 15th for regular customers. Also don't have a lot of faith in ASUS warranty claims and support in general.
Check out this deal, and the only grip is 16GB RAM... otherwise, it's a top-notch machine from Acer.
