I store my gas in metal jerry cans - the tighter the seal the better for longevity. That said, to get that seal Jerry cans don't have an air makeup. Plus they are nearly 50lb when full with 5 gallons of gas. That means emptying them when full is especially difficult - not spilling while simultaneously directing the hose into a garden implement and holding up 50 lb while it's glugging along (no air makeup = poor flow).
A device like this would be great even if it's just temporary (take it out every time).
- no wrecking my back trying to hoist 50 lb
- no spilling gas everywhere
- consistent, manageable flow
Heck there have even been times where I've decided to put some that's left in a gas can into my car but many newer cars require a mini funnel to bypass some anti-siphon devices and that also reduces flow so I wind up overflowing the funnel. This should act more or less just like a gas pump.

This cordless fuel transfer pump is best for moving gas from heavy cans into small tanks without lifting and spilling. It can deliver a steady flow, and that makes it handy for generators, mowers, ATVs, and awkward fill locations. The intake is large, so it barely fits a normal gas can and is too wide for most car filler necks, though it may work better with diesel openings. The pump also lacks speed control, auto shutoff can be finicky, and similar units have been reported to leak near the battery over time, so it suits simple transfer jobs more than precision use.
The pump can transfer fuel from heavy, tightly sealed 5-gallon jerry cans with less lifting and spilling.
The pump can reach about 3.9 GPM when operated hard enough for faster transfers between containers.
The pump can work well for filling smaller tanks from a 5-gallon tank when careful positioning is used.
The pump can help bypass some anti-siphon and funnel flow issues when transferring small amounts into a vehicle.
The pump intake is too large to fit inside a normal gas can with room to spare, which limits convenience.
The pump may not pump directly from a car's filler neck and is better suited for transferring from a gas can.
The pump can present a fire hazard if it is not intrinsically safe when used with gasoline.
The pump can eventually leak fuel near the top area by the battery, making it effectively disposable over time.
