The Phomemo PM64D is a budget 4 by 6 thermal shipping label printer that is best for quick eBay and Amazon labels, especially if you want peel and stick convenience without ink or tape. It prints directly from downloaded 4 by 6 labels, and the setup can work well once the default paper size is changed to 4 by 6. Print quality and reliability depend on the label stock and setup, though, and the touchscreen feels gimmicky. Bluetooth and network printing can take extra tinkering, so it suits low cost label printing more than a polished out of the box experience.

I purchased and returned the same day. The print quality is worse than my 20 year old Zebra LP2844s.And you can get those used on eBay if you look for around $40.The print heads on the phomemo are low quality and will probably burn out after a couple months. More of a smear than a dot matrix. Also would not feed properly on my 1"x2" labels. It would calibrate them fine but when it came to printing the platen roller would keep spinning and the labels would get stuck.I'm pretty sure these cheap Chinese printer parts are made in the same factory so this applies to all the cheap brands.Again I'm pretty picky on labels for my shipping packages. Would this satisfy the average person, maybe.
I printed a PDF directly to my Brother printer and the quality was poor. When I took a screenshot of said PDF, the screenshot printed way better. I fiddled with the settings as much as I could but couldn't improve the print quality from PDF.

I bought a $30 thermal printer and vibe coded drivers for it so I didn't need to deal with sketchy drivers.
Do you have a link to the $30 printer?

This is thermal, so there's no ink
Fair; I should've used different phrasing.

If you've got the Phomemo PM64D, you've probably found that Bluetooth printing only works through the Labelife app. The printer never shows up in the iPhone's Share → Print menu, and Macs won't print to it over Bluetooth at all.

I put together a free, open-source fix. You plug the printer into an always-on Linux box by USB (a NAS, home server, etc.), and it shows up on your network as a normal AirPrint printer. After that you can print shipping labels straight from email, Safari, PDFs, eBay/Etsy/Pirate Ship pages, whatever, on any iPhone, iPad or Mac in the house, with no app and no Bluetooth pairing.

It uses an open-source driver instead of Phomemo's closed one. I checked its output byte-for-byte against the official driver, and it's identical.
It runs as one Docker container, with step-by-step setup in the README.
It's free, MIT licensed, and has no account or cloud.

What you need: a Linux machine with Docker that stays on, and a USB-A to USB-C cable. A C-to-C cable from a computer's USB-C port didn't work for me; the printer was never detected. If you don't have a home server, this one isn't for you.

I've only tested it on the PM64D. Other Phomemo/Labelife label printers may work, and the repo has a script to check yours against the official driver.

No worries, I'm just saying the ink wasn't the catch. There's usually a catch somewhere though haha

One good thing about these Chinese copies is they already have the mindset of counterfeiters lol so they almost certainly don't require DRM-protected stickers/paper like Dymo, Brother, HP, etc. The Chinese stuff is usually pretty easy to circumvent because they know better than to pull that shit. In this case the catch appears to be paid features in the app or the app just not working well.

My wife (thinks) needs this for her Vinted empire lol
It helps, wife is on a full on Vinted bender the last few months. The formatting from Vinted sucks, they do normal 8½x11 paper for some reason. There's a decently quick way to get them printed off though correctly

Anyoneknow if you are able to direct print eBay labels with these budget thermal printers? On Amazon when I ask this question (granted AI generated) it mentions having to save the label as a pdf then import it into the label maker app. I don't need that extra step hassle. TIA
I dont have this exact one but a similsr as long as it prints 4x6 labels and has drivers for your computer I do

I got it sorted out, there is an eBay account setting to designate 4x6" labels as the default.

If you're a regular consumer printing labels 5 times a week, use your kids paper cutter and glue stick instead. Regular paper, no futsy drivers or paper layout settings. Print normal layout, cut the label, glue stick the back. You have professional results that work anywhere. Regular Costco paper, and the toner/ink you already own.

I would beg to differ , if you do any kind of volume I wouldn't put up with the shortcomings of these cheap printers. Much less frustration with a brother / zebra and more support,
I have one of these " Cheap Printers" and as far as Thermal printers, it has held up perfectly. And I printed close to 1000 labels.
