Wolverine's work hiker boots stand out as a budget waterproof work boot with a wide fit, and the low price has matched or beaten past deals. The strongest praise is for comfort, durability, and a roomy toe box when paired with good insoles, with some pairs holding up for years in long shifts, concrete work, or motorcycle commuting. The main cautions are uneven quality over time, stiff or uncomfortable break in, and reports of arch collapse or early wear on heavier use. A practical pick if fit and construction line up for your feet.

Common Questions (5)

  • They can be comfortable for some feet, especially with a wide toe box and good insoles, but several reports describe them as stiff or painful for full-day wear. A few buyers found them comfortable and durable for the price, while others felt pain above the big toe knuckle or said the boots were very uncomfortable.

  • Durability is reported as decent at the $65 price, but newer pairs may not last like older Wolverine boots. Some pairs have held up for years with only insole replacement, while other reports say recent pairs can wear out in about 6 months or have quality issues.

  • Yes, they may need a break-in period, especially in the insole and footbed. One detailed recommendation is to try them on for 5-10 minutes first, then judge them after about a week of heavy use, since fit and arch shape vary a lot by foot.

  • They are a reasonable buy if you want a wide, waterproof work boot at this price and can return them if the fit is wrong. The wide toe box is a plus for long shifts on concrete, but the arch can collapse for heavier users or people with flat feet.

  • Check the sole stiffness, toe-box fit, and overall construction before committing. The boots can have a very rigid sole, and quality checks mentioned include even stitching, a Goodyear welt or Blake stitch, and no cement construction.

I've had my tactical wolverine boots for over 8 years now and it's very uncomfortable but is still in pretty awesome shape. I recommend getting some insoles

I'll bite; it is good to know that their fit policy sounds good and hopefully I won't have to return. This seems like a good price for a waterproof boot that's also wide. I've worn merrells as my regular winter shoe and have had mixed results with their quality. Hopefully I get similar or better out of this one or know when I get it that it clearly should be returned lol

So from all your experience, what brand(s) would you recommend? I'm looking for a steel toe that will be comfortable for 8+ hours on my feet .
I'm on concrete 10+ hours a day and I'm a chonky boy. In my opinion it's all about the wide toe box and a good pair of insoles like cruvheal.

Rocky, Steel Blue, and Ariat are a few brands with wider toe boxes.

They're OK at this price point, but they do not last and the arch will collapse if you are heavy or have flat feet.

When it comes to work boots, especially if your employer will pay for them, go with what's comfortable and will last.

I recommend Danner's; I've had one pair since 2001 (yes, really); just take care of them - clean, wash, dry, oil.

EW width was available - are you saying that their wide isn't wide enough or that their regular width isn't wide enough?

Bought these not expecting much. Pleasantly surprised at the comfort & durability. Ugly as sin but they last quite a bit for the price.
Same. Have a pair, they exceeded my expectations for the cost. I think I got them slightly cheaper but it's been a year so the new price tracks.

so damn uncomfortable. If you want comfort, go with Keen, Danner or Merrill.
I second Merrill. Best hiking shoe ever

Thanks poster. I have a pair of these I've worn for the past 2 years. I use them as my commuting motorcycle boot to work and they keep my feet warm into the low 20s and high teens.

I replaced the insole padding a few times but super tough so far. For reference, Skechers, Wolverine, and Irish Setter generally fit me perfectly… Keen, Merrill, and redwings do NOT.
