So, to be clear, it looks like this just adds a thin "pillow top" layer to the mattress, it doesn't actually add meaningful extra depth/support. I'm sure that's decent in some situations, but I'm looking for something to hopefully maybe a pull out couch mattress less torturous, so this wouldn't be it for me.

Been using a foam mattress topper for a few years which is great but not ideal for trips

You could put a blow up mattress, like Beautyrest on it.
