They're good enough for a disposable tape measure...loaner, gift, emergency purchase situation, etc. I've broken a few with the first drop so I know you ain't wrong. However once you use a Stanley or any other quality tape measure with a 11-12 foot stand out, you don't really want to deal with other junk anymore. I picked up my pair this week to add to my Milwaukee, Klein, and Lufkin collection.
