This Verizon Pixel 11 Pro deal is mainly about getting a heavily discounted flagship and then verifying carrier unlock after activation. The strongest upside is the low out of pocket price, with store pickup and immediate activation often leading to an unlocked phone that works with Google Fi, Mint, T Mobile, or other eSIMs. The main catch is Verizon's confusing unlock behavior, since some units stay locked for hours or days and the bootloader remains permanently locked. Cancellation usually needs chat or phone support, and full month bills or prorated charge adjustments can take follow up.

Common Questions (5)

  • Often yes, but not always. Several buyers report the phone becomes carrier-unlocked after activation and can be verified with a non-Verizon eSIM like Google Fi or Mint, while others saw a 35-day hold or had to wait for Verizon support to push the unlock. Store pickup appears to be the most reliable path for immediate unlock.

  • No. Verizon Pixels are reported to have a permanently locked bootloader, which blocks OEM unlocking and custom ROM installs even if the phone is carrier-unlocked. The carrier unlock status and bootloader lock are separate.

  • Test it with a non-Verizon eSIM or SIM, especially a free Google Fi trial eSIM, or check whether multiple carrier networks appear under SIM/network settings. If Fi or another carrier activates, the phone is carrier-unlocked; Verizon's own status page can lag behind or be misleading.

  • Yes, many buyers cancel immediately after activation and report only a small prorated charge, but Verizon may first generate a full-month bill that has to be waived in chat or by phone. The activation fee is waived on this promo, and the line should be disconnected immediately rather than left active until the end of the billing cycle.

  • Yes. Store pickup is repeatedly reported to unlock the phone right away, likely because ID verification makes the purchase count as a secure payment, while shipped orders are the ones more often tied to the 35-day unlock delay or backend unlock requests.

AFAIK only google store "unlocked" version has an unlockable bootloader. All other carriers have the bootloader permanently locked.
Also best buy unlocked or Amazon unlocked or others. Source: I have one. Just get one that says unlocked and don't buy from Verizon as it will never unlock the bootloader, only the carrier (later).

I asked one of the reps on the phone and he said the phone will stay locked for 60 days once fully paid off, I asked another employee few days later and they he said it will instantly unlock...

I was charged the discounted price but it shows full price for the item.
That's fine. It's a new thing for Verizon so the receipt might be off. But you indeed paid retail price of the phone and it should be unlocked. It will be interesting to know when you power on the phone it's already unlocked or you have to activate it with Verizon first. I'd do the activation anyway as that's better for cancellation later on.

Already a Verizon customer and plan to stay. Can I still get this and add it to existing account eventually?

I think so, you have to sign up for simplify plan. You can as well get a new line and cancel as mentioned in the post.

Verizon changed their policy in Feb. Now it unlocks instantly once the phone is paid off fully.

Interested in the Pixel 11 Pro 512gb. It's $600, but full price tax kills the deal for me. $121.75 in SoCal tax.
Looks like it's a California thing. Comes out to about 27% tax for my city. When I tried an out-of-state zip, it's taxed after discount.

Yeah it's a California thing. Not used to be the case few years ago.

You pay $480 and less than $10 for service for a few days till you cancel and that's about it. You walk away with a unlocked P11 pro. For Fi two of year of plan charge us much more.

And if you put a value on the 6-months of $0 'Google AI Pro'
$19.99 * 6 = $119.94

Naw. Never heard this for most carriers. Verizon and it's sub-brands, yes.
