Community Reviews

This Verizon Pixel 11 Pro deal is mainly about getting a heavily discounted flagship and then verifying carrier unlock after activation. The strongest upside is the low out of pocket price, with store pickup and immediate activation often leading to an unlocked phone that works with Google Fi, Mint, T Mobile, or other eSIMs. The main catch is Verizon's confusing unlock behavior, since some units stay locked for hours or days and the bootloader remains permanently locked. Cancellation usually needs chat or phone support, and full month bills or prorated charge adjustments can take follow up.

  • eSIM setup can be unreliable, with some devices showing "contact Verizon" errors or failing to add other carrier eSIMs even after activation.

  • Unlock timing can be delayed for shipped orders, with Verizon support sometimes citing a 35-day wait or longer.

  • Verizon Pixels can have a permanently locked bootloader, which prevents custom ROM installs like LineageOS or GrapheneOS.

  • Canceling early can still trigger full-month billing or additional bills that require follow-up chats to waive charges.

Even if you sell it for cost, if you get the elevated CB offer you're well in the green

This is not the case, and I'm not sure who started this rumor on the Internet. I used to work for a wireless carrier. Well, I've worked for a lot of them, but on this project I was specifically on the roaming team. We had locked devices, but we would manually select roaming partners networks to test performance while roaming.

On another note, I'm not sure the screen showing Verizon's number when adding an eSIM will ever go away. I had a Visible Pixel 10 that showed that screen even after unlocking. On that screen, there should be an option at the bottom to "add a different SIM", or something like that. But again, that was a slightly different device.
+1 this. Mine showed all networks and is locked to verizon. That is a rumor that doesn't work.

There's a lot of confusion around this, so I'd like to hear from someone who has actually gone through the process. From what I understand, if you pay the phone off in full and cancel the line within 3 days, the phone becomes fully yours, gets unlocked, and there are no further payments due after the line is canceled. Is that correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
1. Order the phone, pay in full.
2. After receiving the phone, boot up and activate it on Verizon, make a few calls etc.
3. Check if the phone is unlocked. Download a Google Fi eSIM for free by starting a trial and see if that works. Fi is on T-Mobile so if that works the phone is unlocked for sure.
4. Chat/call with Verizon to cancel the line effectively immediately. They are trained to cancel the line at the end of billing cycle but you are doing this as part of buyers remorse because of poor coverage etc. In this case, they will charge you only for days the service was active.

5. Verizon will most likely send you a bill for full month. You then talk to them again, bring up Verizon policy to get charges waived.

Additionally check unmentionable cashback with Verizon purchases which can give you a significant cashback on purchase

I think the point is if it shows other carrier if the device is not roaming. For roaming they have to show other networks to be able to connect with them.

Huh? I don't understand what you are saying. The point is, a carrier locked device will still show all available networks. What you see on that screen has nothing to do with the lock status of the device.

Verizon's return policy says instant savings get charged back if you don't keep service for 3 billing cycles:
https://www.verizon.com/support/return-policy/

But read closely, it's written for trade-ins ("at the time of your trade") — this deal has no trade-in, and I saw no 3-cycle term at checkout.

Has anyone actually been clawed back on a no-trade-in Verizon upfront discount? Or is anyone past 3 billing cycles with no charge?

Seems like a lot of hassel. How much is the monthy plan? Still seems like a decent deal if I keep it a year.

I have not looked into wether the network list is a definitive answer to whether a phone is unlocked or not. I have always verified a phone is unlocked by putting in another carriers SIM card. You might be right that list does not mean the phone is unlocked but that's what AI says based on Internet if you can't get a sim to test. You might be right that list of network does not prove that the device is not locked.

Google Fi or another carrier eSIM is the way to test this definitively.

my rep gave me no hassle to cancel the line. My call was disconnected immediately after cancelling. The terms and conditions on the disconnection clearly showed how much I was due at the next cycle ($1-2 dollars) and $0 afterward.

If you look at the webpage they say this is the full retail price of the device so in Verizon terms you are done paying for the device. So my read of that section is that it does not apply to this purchase.

I guess I'll find out, it's not like I'll back down if they try to claw back the discount.

that is for merchandise returns not canceling service early.

even ticket opened didn't help, any suggestions ? quoting /pointing wording didnt help ?
return device will hurt 50$ resocking fee, keep device for more than 35 days , hurt 80$ service plan feee? holdng tiger tail now !!!
