Community Reviews

This Verizon Pixel 11 Pro deal is mainly about getting a heavily discounted flagship and then verifying carrier unlock after activation. The strongest upside is the low out of pocket price, with store pickup and immediate activation often leading to an unlocked phone that works with Google Fi, Mint, T Mobile, or other eSIMs. The main catch is Verizon's confusing unlock behavior, since some units stay locked for hours or days and the bootloader remains permanently locked. Cancellation usually needs chat or phone support, and full month bills or prorated charge adjustments can take follow up.

  • eSIM setup can be unreliable, with some devices showing "contact Verizon" errors or failing to add other carrier eSIMs even after activation.

  • Unlock timing can be delayed for shipped orders, with Verizon support sometimes citing a 35-day wait or longer.

  • Verizon Pixels can have a permanently locked bootloader, which prevents custom ROM installs like LineageOS or GrapheneOS.

  • Canceling early can still trigger full-month billing or additional bills that require follow-up chats to waive charges.

Yeah but the definition on secure and non-secure payments are the same for both.
Consumer site doesn't distinguish between secure vs. non secure payments in its unlock policy. Just overall so messy by Verizon, but not unexpected.

It does from https://www.verizon.com/about/con...xOfDB8WXww under "Post paid device unlock policy"

"A secure payment method is required to unlock a device immediately when paying the full device balance. If a Verizon Gift Card is used to purchase a smartphone or pay off a remaining balance, the unlocking process will be delayed by 35 days. This window allows for the verification of the gift card's funds to ensure they were not obtained through fraudulent or illegal means."

Ordered online, received my devices via FedEx today. The Verizon IVR system confirmed my devices to be unlocked even before opening the box and checking them (even though I paid via CC on the website).

IMO the secure payment method only affects when the full device balance is being paid off early (i.e. it's financed or "$0" via credits). Since we purchased it at retail price, I'm not sure it applies to us. But Verizon is known for playing games with their lock / unlock policy so I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing something else.

The Device Unlocking FAQs talk about the secure payment type, incase there was any ambiguity on that aspect, for personal accounts. https://www.verizon.com/support/d...king-faqs/

For what it's worth, they acknowledged it themselves via chat today

How come some people ordering online for shipping are getting locked devices, while others are getting unlocked?

Did you check if the device is actually unlocked by using it with non-verizon sim?

I think some with the shipping also reported device to be unlocked but I am not sure if they verified it with other SIM. I'd do store pickup if available just to be safe.

I dont think so if you can live with the smaller size. For xl size, galaxy s26u for $650 from Fi is better if you dont have preference on Android skin.

Yes. It's Unlocked. My original post had additional detail. I managed to use Google FI eSim on the device and it worked fine. That post was taken down for mentioning more info on $600. I forgot to mention it in the new comment. Do you know if $600 would still come if I cancel the line since my terms and exclusions don't have any mandate on Number of days to hold the line?

Just another data point. Real headache dealing with Verizon. I bought online through PayPal, the phone arrived locked (showing locked both in My Verizon and when trying to add an eSim).

Chat support couldn't figure out why it wasn't unlocked and they couldn't unlock it. Multiple phone agents also couldn't figure it out (one mentioned the outdated 60 day unlock policy). Finally I got an agent who brought up the 35 day unlock policy for unsecure payment methods, but the policy wording is dubious whether that actually applies to phones which were paid in full at time of purchase. I asked them to escalate and they said they'll get back to me.

If a device is showing as unlocked already before even activating it, does that mean you can just never activate it and sell it as new in box?
