This KitchenAid attachment is best understood as a powered slicing and shredding add on, not a full food processor. It can handle parmesan and mozzarella better when the cheese is chilled, and the shredder blade gets the strongest praise. The main drawbacks are clumpy or uneven results on cheese and vegetables, plus reports of stuck food, difficult cleanup, and a housing that cannot be washed. It also runs too slowly to replace a real food processor, making it a niche helper rather than an all purpose prep tool.
Common Questions (5)
It can shred cheese, but softer cheese may come out smushed or clumpy unless it is chilled first. Freezing mozzarella or slightly freezing soft cheese for about 15 minutes can help it shred more cleanly.
It is only the attachment and does not include a motor. It also does not run at a high enough speed to function like a full food processor, so it is better thought of as an add-on for specific tasks.
The shredder attachment is about half the price and works well for shredding when paired with the right blade. For broader food-processing tasks, a proper countertop food processor is the better choice.
The housing cannot be washed, and stuck vegetables can be difficult to remove. That makes cleanup more cumbersome than a countertop food processor.
The metal version is the one to grab if you are choosing between the two. Reviews comparing them point to the metal model as the better option.
