It completely depends on the airflow and the duct intake.
These filters do not have robust support and fold easily when air flow is strong.

A 1" MERV 14 filter is keeping HVAC guys in business. The guy saying nothing beyond a MERV 8 is spot on and any 1" with a higher MERV rating than 8 I promise you your system isn't designed for it and your cutting off air flow. Residential HVAC anymore is the equivalent of a Jiffy Lube oil change. Up sale products, and no idea how a system works. All they want to do is sell you knew equipment.

100% agree. Switched from 3M MERV11 to HDX MERV8 and noticed a huge improvement in airflow because the MERV11 3M filters were too restrictive. Plus MERV8 HDX filters can be super cheap depending on the filter size, for example the 12-pk HDX MERV8 14x25x1 is ~$45.

A merv 5 filter is enough tbh. Your ac doesn't need more than that considering that the fitler is more to protect the unit. Compressors, evap coils, etc... dont really care about allergens. They care about dust buildup, which a merv 5 will be fine for.

Real world testing you can see and do yourself disagrees with you. More pleats means more surface area for air to go through means less air restriction and more total filtered matter before clogging. How did you measure your "huge improvement in airflow"?
