EyeBuyDirect is a budget source for prescription glasses and sunglasses that can deliver solid value, especially for backups or low stakes wear. The frames are often described as light, with spring hinge and titanium options, and the company has replaced scratched frames and accepted EyeMed insurance. Delivery is usually around 10 to 14 days, and long term wearers report years of use without complaints. The main cautions are flimsy build, sizing and bridge fit issues, and occasional lens problems such as blur, crazing, or progressive alignment trouble, so careful measurements matter.

Common Questions (4)

  • They're generally acceptable to good for budget glasses, with several long-term users reporting years of use and no major complaints. The tradeoff is that many frames are flimsy or not first-rate, so they're better for backups, casual wear, or low-stakes use than for premium daily frames.

  • Progressives can work well for some prescriptions, but they need precise alignment and can be blurry if the fit is off. They're best suited to mild single-vision-style needs; for stronger prescriptions, prism, or if you want a clearer near/far transition, bifocals may be the better choice.

  • Check the lens, arm, and bridge measurements before ordering, especially the bridge size, because frames can come out too big if that's off. If the arms still need tweaking, they can be adjusted with a hairdryer to heat and bend them into shape.

  • Delivery typically takes about 10-14 days. That makes it a reasonable option if you can wait a couple of weeks for prescription glasses or sunglasses.

I am using EyeBuyDirect for 8 years now. No complain at all. Their customer service is also really great. Last year one of the frame had a scratch, they immediately replaced it. This year I got a titanium fram which is really light weight. Also, they accepted my vision insurance(EyeMed). I would be much comfortable in the future to get glasses from them because of my good experience. Also because I need frames with high temple length, I feel getting a eyewear from EyeBuyDirect is way easier than getting it from an actual shop. BTW, I wear single vision glasses.

Their cost of goods is the shipping fee. That should tell you something. The wholesale cost on a Varilux runs $65 to $350.

Price has been going up lately especially the limitation on lenses on some frames is very annoying. $15 frame but wants me to get $40 lenses for some reason.. Not saying it's the case for all and I've been buying from them for more than 10 years. My concern is frames get moisture inside the lens and and frame cavity and they mold or start getting dark stains.. Probably sweat or something I can't tell. Also some of their rimless frames lenses don't get polished edges, and most of the sub $40 frames don't have flexible spring hinges.
For spares that are good but they are not good quality enough to be primary daily frames.
Also, sometimes they don't get the PD just right and it might be a little blurry.

I agree - my Zenni frames are a bit more sturdy, though I have several from both companies and they are all pretty flimsy. However, for the prices, these are great. I have not stopped ordering from both companies since getting sick of prices from more reputable companies/frames.

Can anyone try this with progressive lenses?
I don't recommend it, progressives need to be "dotted" to line up where your eye is exactly in the lens for where the progressive segment will be in the glasses. And not being situated correctly on the progressive segment means you likely won't get the benefit you are looking for and could end up blurry at distance and or intermediate/near. These types of glasses are really optimal for mild single vision prescriptions. I wouldn't mess with very high myopia/hyperopia/astigmatism or bifocals/progressives or of course if you need prism.

I have bought several pairs of glasses and sunglasses from them over the years, and never had problems until recently. I ordered a pair of glasses and a sunglasses from them earlier this year and the lenses are crazed. Basically, they have this weird wavy texture that you can only really see in really bright light. It looks like brush marks from applying the coating. At night, they have bad light flare which makes it hard to see. After a couple of months the sunglasses started getting really cloudy and difficult to see out of. I think both have to do with the lens crazing. I had them replace the sunglasses, but the new pair has the same issues. I won't be buying from EBD for awhile until they have fixed this issue.

I got a pair of progressive's from them late last year. The lenses were $109 for the premium progressive package (frames were $9) and I'm very happy with the lenses. I wear them all the time

Precovid, i ordered progressives from Zenni (or maybe google4u).
Hated it. Too many times things got blurry because it's gradient from far sighted to near sighted.

Next set i got the grandpa look with bi-focals.
Much better.

Compared to Zenni I'd say a step down. They force you to high-index lenses if you have certain prescriptions so the cost savings washes out. Their frames seem on par and I like that they have spring hinge options. Optics are meh. I have a set of sunglasses which seem fine but a set of progressives have dead spots laterally.

I have pretty much stopped relying on the Zennis and EBDs for my main glasses and just buy them for backups. Their fit, finish and durability just don't compare to some premium brands. Your upside is most definitely the cost for basic glasses and that's about it.

Eyebuy has gotten too expensive. I bought a pair of glasses for $38 in April and now they're close to $100. Also, the code BOHO4U took more of a discount this time.

I have about 10 different pairs of glasses from this company. Been using them over a decade now and I don't have a single complaint about them. Really good company that stands by their products.

Eyebuydirect is the lowest cost option owned by luxxotica

So the quality is acceptable, but they are definitely not "first rate" the size of the lens and frame is smaller than you'd expect (which saves money for them)

Also the two I ordered had some small unusual quirks in design

If I was on an extreme budget and needed prescription glass they would definitely be on my list though.

I've ordered from both extensively and it's the opposite actually, Eyebuydirect is like Target while Zenni is like Wal-Mart, Zenni wins on price but Eyebuydirect usually has slightly higher quality
