Energy Take Classic is a passive 5.1 speaker system that can sound surprisingly strong for the money, especially in a medium sized room with a proper AVR and subwoofer. The small 3.5 inch woofers lean on the included sub for bass, and the setup has been described as a soundbar killer when paired with receivers like the Yamaha RX V385 or Denon AVR S270BT. The main catch is that no receiver is included, so it needs an amplifier or AVR before it can be used. It is a solid budget surround option if you already have the gear to drive it.

An AV receiver - a low end denon or yamaha for example. Computer->Receiver->Speakers

I got these years ago for around $300 and thought they sounded good UNTIL I bought a set of Klipsch quintet speakers for the same price on sale and they blew them off the map

Silly and unnecessary.
...to you. Others enjoy the immersive surround sound of a decent set of speakers. It's good that things can be silly and unnecessary to one person and the exact opposite to another. To call them that shows an ability to only see one side of things.

That's no longer the price & it hasn't been since a couple of hours after it was on this site over a week ago.

Well, everything is relative isn't it. There are any number of speakers that, if you brought them home, could also have the same effect with those Klipsch Quintets.

No, you'd need an AVR that supports at least 5 channels. Given today's war- and tariff-driven crazy inflation, the smart thing to do would be to buy a used one off FBM or CL for $70-150 instead of getting robbed out of $600-800 for an entry level AVR that cost around $300-400 just a year or two ago.

That's why I said "something like this." Used link to reference the type of product needed, not the price. It was the first thing I saw where that could be accomplished.

You can help by assisting our fellow Slickdealer and posting a link to the best price on a receiver or proper full system.

Or, perhaps someone else can.

No, this contains only speakers. You need more equipment to actually make use of the speakers. As my post explains, it should be called a SPEAKER system, not a home theater system.

Good find. Regardless of the misleading product title or how long that has been going on, this must be called a 5.1 Channel Home Theater SPEAKER System. There is no receiver included.

Let's correct their mistake here on SD, at least. nod

Even a quick search results in:

Because of the confusing naming, many retailers have actually started listing this specific model as the Energy Take Classic 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System to prevent people from opening the box on delivery day only to realize they can't plug it into their TV.

Man, I bought the Take 5 (without sub) back in 2012 off of Woot for $169 (which was a deal even then) and still use them to this day and they still sound great. Matched with a powered Dayton 12" sub and I have been more than satisfied with my little home theater.

Would it be silly to get this and use the two fronts as bookshelf speakers for a turntable?

Yes it would be extremely silly. I'd hate to listen to a pair of tiny 3" woofers and 3/4" tweeters. Tiny speakers = tiny sound. If you are under such a tight budget, do yourself a favor and get these, $140/pr ($20 less for the "renewed" models) from Amazon: https://www.erinsaudiocorner.com/...i_bs5_nfs/

I paid double in 2010 and I'm still happy with them. Absolute no brainer purchase at this price.
