I've got these from a refurb ebay deal in the past. They came in a very nice (non-oem) case, clean, ready to go. Battery life is excellent and does give a voice warning when they get low. Would buy again.
I've had a pair for several years and never had a problem with the hinge. I bought my teenage son a pair and the hinge broke within a few months, AllState repaired it under warranty and it broke again within a few months. If you don't toss it around or bend it too much when taking it on/off, should be fine, but YMMV! At this point I think I'd spend the extra for the newer XM6.

The biggest selling point for me on the XM6 was the ambient pass through. I own several high end headphones including other Sony XM's and the 6 is insane. The pass through is so accurate that it's like not having anything on your ears at all. I feel like this is the kind of tech that differentiates headphones now over things like sound quality which I can hardly tell the difference of between models now.

I know the hinge gets a ton of attention on these things, but as another data point, I bought a refurbed pair 2 years ago, use them pretty much every day, and they're still going strong.
Used this 1000XM5 and it is above average in audio, but the tightness against the ears was too much after 15 mins wearing it. The headset ear pieces were soak in sweats after that short time wearing. I've should have listened to to other reviews about the tightness.

If you don't need it now just hold out a month and it'll likely be back to that price or even lower.
