The bakeries at grocery stores and Costco go through several 1-5 gallon buckets of frosting a day. The buckets are food safe and usually have thicker walls. The staff usually throw them away.

80% of the time when I ask for them, they hand a stack of empties right over.

The last couple of times that I took advantage of this offer, Harbor Freight had put the lids on sale for $2 each. Purchasing the lid counted towards the free bucket with any purchase for ITC members. Hopefully they'll have the same deal.

Harbor Freight's free 5 gallon bucket deal is mainly useful as a food safe, clean storage bucket with a snap on lid, and it is made in the USA. The bucket is often described as coming with a lid, and the lid has been seen on sale for $2 to $3, which can make the offer feel like paying only for the lid. The bucket can arrive a little wet or with a frosting smell, so washing and drying it first helps. It also appears tied to Inside Track Club membership, with the lid sale not always shown online.

Common Questions (4)

  • The snap-on lid is reported at $2 to $2.99, depending on the store and promotion. In some cases, buying the lid still counts toward the free-bucket-with-purchase requirement, making the deal effectively a cheap lid with a free bucket.

  • The buckets are described as food grade with an airtight lid, and they're used for food storage and brewing. They may arrive a little wet or with frosting residue, so washing them first is still a good idea.

    ssaoiNunyaBidnizssaoiSumDuud

  • Yes. The bucket is free for Inside Track Club members, and the deal is tied to the club rather than being a general public offer.

    ChaChing23WittyPencil395ShrewdFriction889

  • Most of the time the buckets are sold with lids, and the lid can also be bought separately if needed. The lid is snap-on, and some stores have had it on sale during the promotion.

I keep hoping that HF will offer a free bucket with any purchase for non-ITC members.
Being available for only Inside-Track-Club members should be in the deal title.

Just spring for the $45 2-year membership. You'll make it back in free buckets and other items.
Often the special savings on just 1 big ticket item pays for the membership.

Most of the time, with lids. They usually a little wet because they always want to wash them off for you and sometimes there is a little frosting.

Diy Halloween costume. Buckethead or bucketman, drill holes for eyes, draw in mouth. Or can double as DJ persona

Fyi...its not really free. Your playing for it $30 or membership by spending more than you should. Ain't no such thing as free lunch!

You could buy the lid for $2.99 and get the bucket free. Why wouldn't ya?
With $30 purchase. You'd have like 9 extra lids

Firehouse subs gets their pickles in 5 gallon buckets and sells them WITH lid for $3-4, depending on the location, and the money goes to their Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (90% of which goes to the programs that they support, 10% to administrative fees). Do NOT leave them in your car or trunk over a hot weekend unless you REALLY love the smell of pickles. I bought 4 recently and after a wash with Dawn Platinum and leaving them to dry in the sun, there is almost no smell. lol

I'll say this is the better tip, since free always wins, but also because frosting probably smells better than pickles. Both still require a washing.

I'm guessing they are assuming you'd be an ITC member and get free bucket with ANY purchase. Doesn't apply to us plebs that aren't ITC members ($30 annual I think)
