Am I stupid? What's the point of HDMI on a hard drive enclosure? Does it have some kind of operating system where you can play media directly from the enclosure?

Note: Please ensure the USB-C port on your host supports video output and use the USB-C to C cable, or the HDMI port will not work.

Specs look solid. And the pass-through video seems useful for presentations with less lag.

Now if only storage didn't cost one soul per drive...

As speedkilz88 noted below, it's for video pass through:

Note: Please ensure the USB-C port on your host supports video output and use the USB-C to C cable, or the HDMI port will not work.

Just adding this as a reply for context so it doesn't get buried. Please like speedkilz88's comment, not mine.

For an enclosure, why are there no pictures of how the drives are housed or how it is opened?

EDIT: needed to scroll down on the Amazon site a bit more.

"blazing" 10Gbps... In 1999.
10 Gigabytes transferred in 1 second seems blazing to me. But then again, I'm in my 50s now ...

So basically it's a USB-C 4-bay JBOD hard-drive enclosure with USB-C video pass-through. One comment suggested that it would only mirror the existing display and not expand the desktop.

I guess it makes sense if you only have a laptop, but only if you have USB-C 3.2.

It looks like a neat idea, but just not a good use case for me, I guess.

Now if it was an e-GPU case... But obviously that would cost three times as much.

Where would you get the required brackets?

There are tons of these on Amazon.

That one is plastic but a ripoff of the old WD Raptor solid cast metal adapters, of which I still have many because they're cool - pun intended. Of course there are much cheaper/flimsier options on Amazon as well that work just fine.
